I hate when words are malformed for some effect that is pointless. For example:
  • that > dat
  • though > doe

I blame the Saints with the inexplicably stupid "who dat" phrase that has turned into an internet meme. Any case where the English language is malformed to a point where I have to stop and think more about what they're trying to say, rather than what is actually being said infuriates me. I understand that English is a living language, but stuff like "who dat" and "dat [noun] doe" is not something I can stomach.

Dictionaries should be required reading for children.

You'd love it there now. They are trying to reform and kick out everyone who helped build and make the site what it is was. Now it's just a bunch of white knights, moral***s, and basic *****es with no reach, nothing to say, and zero influence via anon. Not sure how long that's gonna last though. They don't realize yet that 4chan was there not to keep others out, but to keep them in....

Hmm.. now that you mention it..  I love quiet moments, and I actually have a very tough time interacting with people who can't handle quiet moments..

because they will bring up conversation that I do not care about.. and since we're AFK, I can't just leave the computer and come back later...

Yes I agree it is stating the obvious, but by verbally acknowledging the awkwardness, aren't you consciously making an attempt to break that awkwardness?

What's so idiotic about that?

"basically" and "actually" as parasite words.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

That sentence is never a sincere apology.

because it's not suppose to be an apology.

more of a passive aggressive "tough ****"

Apparently I live in a completely Muslim city where white people (aka me) don't dare go. This year kind of sucks so far.

It shortens 'while I am' or 'while you are,' it literally saves time and energy as an abbreviation.

as stated before, it's not the word i have a problem with. it's the people that use it. fedora tipping "intellectuals" that try their hardest to sound very smart and type very smart.

again, not the word.

wait.  is this verbal or written stuff we're complaining about?

written, I hate:

.  And

also, one space after a period.  it's TWO spaces after an end of sentence period.  if you use ONE period, it means that previous word is an abbreviation/truncation of some sort.  eg. Mr. (one space)

This is why you're wrong.  Yes, I still do it, but it's not proper typing.  Double spacing after a period is a leftover relic from typewriters and from college kids who think that those extra few spaces will make their paper longer.  Two spaces isn't necessary because one is enough with modern typography, kerning, and spacing to accurately show that there is a large enough gap between the two to properly break sentences.

I still prefer the double space since I think it looks nicer and is easier to read even though it can be a bit much sometimes.  Even so, I know I'm wrong when I do it.

nice try but no dice.

benefits of 2 spaces:

-accounts for the different uses of a period (.end of sentence, .abbr, ... a verbal tonation hint)
-easily text-formattable to show one sentence per line (this is to help certain people with reading disabilities and probably simplifies reading for ESL)
-gives hints for computer parsing

where it wins:
-emails
-student essays
-text to speech (you can teach a computer to 'take a breath' after sentences)

benefits of 1 space:

-looks better when looks matter

where it wins:

-wedding invitations
-posters

final note:

it is EXCEPTIONALLY easy to text-replace 2space with 1space.  the other way around?  not so much (unless: "  mr.[2space]r.[2space]hill " is somehow acceptable).

what?

There arn't that many common words that follow cis that you could possibly be seeing often enough to hate..

All I've ever used were Cisco and Cistern..

The only other Cis- word I know is Cissoid from geometry.

Most anything following 'cis__' or 'pan__' or '__kin' or any variation on the word shim, sher, **** whatever.

There arn't that many common words that follow cis that you could possibly be seeing often enough to hate..

It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

I'm confused.. I read that first wiki paragraph 4 times.. now.. so cisgender means you - Match the -assigned- gender..

that just means you're normal right?

What are the femanazi's saying about that.

Exactly, it doesn't mean ****. Just another way for those types of SJW's to make everyone else walk on eggshells.

Ok.. so I just read-up on the debate..

they want to get away from shortcut terms like  "correct" gender..

that's not totally un-understandable..

I suppose in the grand scheme, apply precision where it's needed...

So i guess, you're fed up with the zealots who are easily excited/offended ?

My understanding is were not allowed to say male and female anymore in case we offend transgender people. Load of PC ****in nonsense.

More a dislike, "I know right" always reminds me of a person I met years ago who would say it. So it bugs me slightly in that respect as my memories of them aren't the greatest.
