Noppoo Lolita Spyder 87
« on: Sun, 01 March 2015, 23:37:22 »
https://www.massdrop.com/buy/noppoo-lolita-spyder-87

I saw the Noppoo Lolita Spyder 87 on Massdrop. Putting a bit of childish sniggering aside because of the name what's your opinion on the board?

If it hits $50 it seems like a great board for anyone who is on the verge of dipping their toes into the world of mechanical keyboards. To me that's a real draw. I think mechanical keyboards are akin to fishing. Once you take a bite of the bait your hooked. I have friends who have enjoyed typing on my mechanical keyboards but are put off at the price tag. I think this could be the bait that gets them lured in.

For others the fact that it has Kailh switches might be enough by itself to turn them away. For people like me at the price (if it hits $50) I almost want it just to have a keyboard that has Lolita stamped on the case. What a conversation starter that would be.

So, what's your thoughts?

I like it. But I need my number pad so I can't say I'm interested. The Lolita is a selling point.

I am not sure how is Kailh switch, but I think this keyboard is not that bad because at least it has a standard 1.25x bottom row

The first one was so much nicer... I don't even know why they made the spyder version...

I honestly had my cursor over the join button for a while because of this.  Also because I never actually tried a board with black switches and like the silver + floating keys, but the name drew me.  I'm tempted to grab one to use as a gaming board since I don't really enjoy topre for gaming and since it'd be part-time use the questionable longevity of kailh doesn't matter.  But I'd probably want to replace the caps because they're crappy looking, but then that adds to the cost which removes a lot of the appeal...

Decisions.

Totally want this.   I would want it so I could buy mx keycap sets and swap out the switches for gaterons.

Keyboards are mad addicting :(

They are unhealthily addicting.

I thought about replacing the switches but when you consider the price that doesn't (for me) seem to be an appealing option. Not including shipping Gaterons from the would cost an additional $13.92 for clears or blacks and $20.88 for browns or blues. If I went through that much trouble I'd want to replace the caps which would be another $20 for a inexpensive set from EK. At that point with all that money and effort it seems better just to buy a different board. If I bought it I doubt I'd ever change anything on it. Just my opinion.

I am not sure how is Kailh switch, but I think this keyboard is not that bad because at least it has a standard 1.25x bottom row

That's one selling point. I really want to know what the Kailh switch is like.

Oooooh. But it doesn't say Lolita.

Exactly. If you start messing with it that $50 price tag doesn't feel so appealing.

But TKL so pretty!

I'm just curious what the reasoning was behind that name.

My experience with Noppoo is that the keyboards are decent. But the solder job is terrible.

Bad for modding.

Lolita by itself is kinda funny, but I see that they have a model called "spyder". Which is highly unfortunate as "rock spider" is prison slang for paedophile.

Check the classifieds. Also Ivan's group buy of stabs should be shipping soon, so you should be able to buy them easily in a short while.

I like the exposed-plate looks (although it's not technically a plate) but for the price I'd rather get a used QFR.

Has anyone taken on of these apart yet and looked at the PCB? I would be curious to see the inside layout.

I picked one of these up as well--my first mechanical keyboard. Wait...this rabbit hole doesn't have a laaaaaaaaaddddddeeeeeeeeerrrrr....

:)

Quick question: what keycap type does this have, so I can order a set? I see a lot of options: OEM, low profile, etc.

Thanks!

it doesn't matter what profile keycaps it comes with.  you can put on whatever profile you like best.
