We should care,  because DV is a long term member, and someone that we all have placed trust in and hold in high regard.

Unless this situation is clarified,  The Drama may persist, and go on to tarnish the integrity of Geekhack..

I care about Geekhack, I care about DV,  I care about Berserk, and I care about all of Geekhack's members..  Except the newbies,  they need another 1000 posts for me to care for them..

This is what I hate to see.

We need to hear Dorkvader's side of the story. If he is vested with the responsibility of a moderator, he can't just sit in the shadows.

Unless the allegations are completely false, they need to be addressed, at least, if not answered or explained.

Exactly, for those that wouldn't be aware Beskerfan already posted something in Classified of Dorkvader, and nothing happened.

This is very bad for the rep of the website to have one of the statff member being accused like that.

I have previously done buisness with berserkfan(actually writing on his caps now ) He told me at that time(7-8 months ago) that i should send my money to dorkvader instead as he was working on a project for him, so i did, i dont remember the details i can check my pms later. Ive spoken alot with berserkfan through my time at gh and think he is a standup guy and i dont missbelief what he is saying for a second.

PPL saying that you shouldnt trust a stranger with your money...Come on, have you never sent a fellow gher money for an item on the classifieds. Dorkvader needs to explain himself.

I myself was involved in a similar situation with a known gh member with around half of what dorkvader owes berserk and it was not pleasant. Hope he starts paying up..

In all honesty, seeing a mod do this is fairly disappointing.  I know all about missing deadlines, but the lack of communication really isn't becoming of a mod, let alone any other member.

I have a threepronged claim against you. Summed up as: $550; goods; and an additional $400.

I know you have some objection towards two of my points: the misused $400 donations and the only-partially-done proxying of goods. But there is a third prong, and you have never responded to my queries on the $550.

Now let me ask you again, Dorkvader. What about the $550 you owe me? Let me remind you, it is already a much reduced figure from over $1k even earlier. Partly to make repayment affordable for you, I moved $200 from the debt ledger to the donations ledger. So an original conditional donation of $200 became $400, and the cash debt was reduced. Then I let you tweak the sum down further, to arrive at $800. That was what you proposed months ago.

Knowing that $800 is still a large sum and that your money management skills are poor, I deliberately did not press the point for months. I wanted to give you time to sell stuff, get paychecks, whatever works to get the funds to pay me. As I made it clear in my PM after you proposed the $800 figure, I expect you to act like an honest and honorable man. So I expect you to act automatically and not because I have to keep pestering you.

But of the $800 you have only paid $250 and have evaded all questions, requests, and queries on this much-reduced debt arrears of $550 ever since. That has been the elephant in the room all along.

If you think you are going to get away with it, my patience has ended. That’s why this post is being made publicly, after again you refused to respond to my demand of $550 in my last PM.

The next step in my escalation will be to contact your parents and employer. Do you still want to tax my patience?

Because posting this on Geekhack will draw all kinds of unnecessary and often inflammatory comments from other people, I will only post here once. I will make no follow up post, and I will lock this thread after enough people have read it.

If I am not made good on my $550 by the end of this month (after your next paycheck), take it for granted that I will contact your parents and employer. That may not get my money back, but it will definitely put your character in the spotlight. And considering your history of evading responsibility, you will lose whatever little credibility remaining.

I'm not taking sides here. I believe this is an issue between dorkvader and berserkfan. I hope the two of them can resolve this, like adults, to their mutual satisfaction.

I like helping people. Really, I do. I like to give people the help that they need. This is very rarely money. It is, more often, favors, errands, time, opinions, making introductions, and maybe throwing in a random spare part they've mentioned on some obscure forum post when they come buying a keyboard from me. (At work this translates to mentoring new folks and providing for them the help and insight I wished that I had when I was new. Recall that "work" for me is writing software.)

I'd love to help dorkvader efficiently sell all of you some keyboards! This is a great example: I share some knowledge, dorkvader does the work, maybe he gets some funds out of it to be able to repay berserkfan, some other GHers get some lovely keyboards, everybody wins.

My guess is that dorkvader is busy with too many things right now. I know that feeling all too well. I'm overwhelmed with home life right now and am falling behind on orders. (My sincere apologies to those of you who have been waiting on key caps for a month.)

I've had many dealings with berserkfan from a financial standpoint selling and buying things and he's shown himself to be nothing by trustworthy. If he says it happened, I'm confident it did.

I have also and I would second this. A good guy to buy from, very genuine and tells it like it is.

While we don't know the exact story of what happened, I think it's safe to say that both parties are at fault here, albeit not quite at the same level. While I know how tightly intertwined this community seems to be, it's still not safe to trust someone you met online that is located on a different continent as you with a substantial sum of money. I'm sure most of you are honorable people, I'm not discrediting that . On the other hand, as a moderator, DV was someone that I would've expected to exhibit better behavior. Sure, I don't know his backstory and what he is facing at the moment, but the fact that he has been ignoring multiple PM's and has denied OP even the slightest update is saddening. OP, I wish you the best of luck, and I hope that DV has a good explanation, and DV, I hope you work everything out, and hope everything is OK in your life.

If you do stuff like these, you can never get your money back (there is a high probability that you did something like this before too, which might have triggered what you have now, you don't pay someone who threatens you (at least an honourable person shouldn't))

As a general life rule, you have to retain your standing with someone who owes you money, as most people are douches, and if you don't retain your standing (friendship etc.) you won't get your money back

So the logical thing to do is to not lend people money, or lend money to only extremely-trusted friends, or let go off the money you lent and treat it as an income if it returns

Definitely agree. I just can't support the fact that OP lent DV even the smallest amount of money, knowing that it was a risk, then complained publicly. However, you can't assume that it's just to not receive your money back just because you made a post and whined about it. Money is money, ideally he should get it back.

At this point, I am not sure whether he cares about the money or not, maybe just making people aware. Also as he stated, it was money for goods which he never got, so I wouldn't cay it a loan (well, at least part of that money). Your many posts on this subject continue to baffle me.  So I will ask you once again - what can the mod team do in the case of a deal gone bad?  Would you like us to visit the member in question and rough 'em up?  Force them to pay/ship their package?  Ban them to ensure you never receive the item?  I just don't get it.

Guess you don't really understand the situation or the way we operate at all. It's not our responsibility to manage your money for you, dude. I've talked with both sides about this but in the end they're the ones who have to resolve this beef. It's not Hoff or my prerogative to do it for them. Sure, I would love to help facilitate the process as best I can but don't come at me all sideways like it's all up to me to do something.

We need both Berserk and DV to step up and give us the whole story. As it stands, and as people have already stated, at this point this thread (based on the OP) is not set to be that productive. I would like to say I'm really proud of our community for some of the stuff posted about how to pursue a resolution. Let's get this figured out.
