It's the same principle as the Sapir Whorf hypothesis; that language influences thought.  The idea that the devices we use to use language can also influence our thought is very intriguing because it incorporates the physiology of the human hand into the process.  It makes me wonder how strongly the Sapir Whorf hypothesis can be applied to users of sign language.
