« on: Fri, 08 January 2016, 18:21:28 »
Finally released today..

Very xcited..

Yes, it's gonna be in Chinese,,  so I'll post if I hear any funny stuffs.. hahahaha

Also,  I might go to the buffet afterwards..

UPDATE:

Just came home..

Story:  2/10,   they pretty much just decided, **** it, they'll watch anything.. he went here, he's here,  han solo, leia,  lightsaber, laser cannon. done..

Visuals: 9/10,  solid use of 3D,  great CGI throughout.. no complaints.

Sound: 7/10,  the tracks are very well mastered, but overall, lacked in variety, complete lack of novelty.  m0ar brass?

Overall..  I'm not sold on the Star wars Universe..  but I am impressed by the technical achievements..

Oh, there are lots of long-term hardcore fans that are in uproar ...

I am a huge Star Wars fan. I had a ticket when my costuming group was invited to Disney to pose at a gala premiere for celebs one day before official opening day. After that, I was so angry with the film that I returned my original ticket for a refund. I have not seen it again, but posted angry posts all over the Internet, analysed it to bits, and started to write plans on how to make a fan-edit of the movie once it comes out on BluRay.
I have written more in the other Star Wars thread.

I'm not a mega fan, and I'm usually pretty critical, but I still found the film to be a fun time. I wouldn't nominate it for any awards, but I enjoyed it.

I'm not getting ****ed by disney, thankfully enough.

I agree with your assessment on this film.   Pretty underwhelming in terms of story and originality, but heck, it was entertaining.  But not entertaining enough to watch more than once at the theatre.

I think Geekhack has more  "Rational"  fandom.. ..  vs fanboi vs fanaticism

This is with exception to Topre-fanaticists.  Whatever-something traumatic has removed a large piece of their hearts,  and they've sought to fill it with rubber cups..  To take rubber cups away from them is to tell them they're not whole, and incomplete..

-- after realizing that, I've come to accept topre-fandom as a disease for which there is no cure.. so hell, filled with rubber cups is better than a deep empty sadness..

That said,  uTron is the only acceptable topre keyboard under the rules of Tp4..

Hi Tp :D

Ok Star Wars lecture time

What I think went wrong with these recent star wars saga is due to it become a profitable franchise and Disney bought it
Disney didn't do a bad job but for someone like me who's been following the Star Wars Expanded Universe, it just loses the story touch

Don't forget that the original Star Wars is a low budget movie with sort of "Soap Opera" style as their selling point
But they got their money from the market, and market want to see what they want to see
and unfortunately what the market see is only the Jedi-ism, while that's not true

This why Disney created a whole different universe with
And losing George Lucas along the way

While Disney trying to redeem them self by creating movie based on other stories in their new Star Wars Universe (like Rogue One)
and I honestly don't agree with people saying that it's a side story
Star Wars is Star Wars, it's a whole universe thats interesting not only the Jedi-ism

but again that's what the big market want :(

I have to go through a lot of explanation to my family and friends when they catch up with the old movies to be able to understand Ep VII

Something like Episode III, it's not about luke being able to defeat Vader or Palpatine
It's about The One (Vader) who returned from the dark side by love to his children, thus they call the movie Return of the Jedi

The movie market is just so different right now, that's why director like Michael Bay still got funded for his non-story-based-explosive-movie -_-

I'm pretty sure SW wasn't low budget.
Also, RotJ was called Revenge of the Jedi up until the last minute, when Lucas decided Revenge isn't something a Jedi would do.

Star wars: A new hope cost $11,000,000 in 1977, adjusting for inflation that comes out to $43,080,792.08

And the Empire strikes back cost 18,000,000-33,000,000 at the time, adjusting for inflation $51,845,242.72-$95,049,611.63

And Return of the jedi costing even more with 32,000,000-42,000,000 in 1983. I can't be bothered to enter the numbers into the calculator, but I'm sure you get the idea.

When you put it into numbers perspective yes :)

this review might get you started of the whole originated idea in making star wars Ep. I and why we call it low budget
http://www.imdb.com/reviews/68/6874.html

Edit: Some other ideas of why it's low budget is that most of the actors were unknown to cut the budget. And I think one of the movie if I'm not mistaken Cleopatra has already spent +- $300M in todays economy in 1963 , as a comparison while star wars is a sci-fi movie and you know how costly it is to produce sci-fi

Oh an another fun fact,
They've to cut budget on Stormtrooper costume (which they used to call them Vader's Army)
So the guy who won the design tender Nick Pemberton approach his neighbor who's good in ABS plastic Andrew Ainswoth to make the helmet

and now he's making big bucks creating the helmet

http://www.originalstormtrooper.com/

He kinda forgot about the helmet until the success of the film and he needs money for family reason, that's when he searched his junk pile at the back of the house for the helmet mould

Oh yea, Star Wars has become a profit center rather than actually appeasing those of us concerned about the quality of the story.  Because let's be honest, most moviegoers just want to be entertained, they don't care that much about the story.
