How often do you do take-out/delivery?
« on: Mon, 11 April 2016, 19:52:27 »
I dunno, sometimes it feels like I order too much delivery food like I got some sort of habit. Getting food delivered 2-3x a week  :-[

But then again there are some people who order food everyday.

How often do you order delivery or take-out, and what would you consider too much?

I had food delivered 3 times a day for 4 months in China..

Cheaper to cook yourself, this way you don't have trouble putting food to mouth.

I think we've been eating out here 6-7 nights a week.

Wife is a chef and by the time she gets home after an average 12-14 hour shift the last thing she wants to do is cook anything.

I am horrible at cooking. If it isn't out of a box or bag, I'm going to ruin it.

It has noticeably affected our physical appearance, haha.

It gets horribly expensive.

Take-out? maybe once a month
Delivery? maybe once every other month

If I want to eat with out making it myself I go out to a real restaurant and getting some quality food. Maybe do that once a week, a little less now when I dont work

Only on special occasions due to numerous family diet issues.

Perhaps a dozen times a year at most.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Considering there literally isn't a restaurant close enough to us to deliver, never.
Same thing with take-out, if we're driving into town, out of our way, might as well just sit down somewhere.

Entirely too often.

Been getting better, but it's still not good.

Sure I go to the gym and it's not like I'm fat, but I know my metabolism won't keep up forever.

more or less every day for lunch and once or twice a week for dinner

lunch I usually get a grinder from the local deli, ~$9 for a grinder loaded with Boar's Head meats that can last me two meals. sometimes I get thai or chinese which doesn't run over $10, and if I get sushi that'll run me ~$30.

dinner, sushi or pizza or taco bell, but I've been good about the fast-food the past week or so. my go-to at taco bell is cheesey gordita crunch + chicken quesarito + chipotle chicken loaded griller

damn this thread is making me hungry

Hate it. Not good quality here around. Either cold or soggy, whatever I buy. Or they are late and I want to kill the deliverers.

Usually once a week for the wife and I. It's usually date night on Friday, but if we don't do anything on Friday, we'll go out on Sunday.

Ritualistically: Every Friday.

1 of 3 things:

1- Couple of Burgers. Only the burgers. I douse 'em with hot sauce and wash them down with beer. Beer is 1 bottle per burger and one for dessert.
2- 14" Pizza. Portobello, Spinach, Ham and Jalapeno with white pizza sauce. Douse with hot sauce, wash down with beer.
3- 5 Tacos. Either Tripas, Lengua or Al Pastor. Lots of Salsa and a lemon cured yellow manzano pepper to spice things up.

Yeah...I like hot stuff :p

During the week, I eat like a health nut. Not to impress anyone or to brag about it, just because I feel better. :p

So basically the weekend is when you go dirty, the week is when you stick to a rigid eat schedule?

I wasn't a chef but I worked at an Italian restaurant as a line cook and sous chef for 7+ years and the last thing I wanted to do when I came home was make some big meal.  People often asked me if I just went home and made these big elaborate meals or if I did on my days off but were usually shocked to hear that I was happy to just open a box of cereal and eat that.

I'm not a chef either, but a semi-pro cook, often sweating my *ss off for 6-10 people with 5 courses.

People don't understand that cooking is an actual exhausting job. They think every cook is like your grandmother baking an apple pie or something.

Once somebody stood in the kitchen with me and was like "why are you hasting so much? why the hurry?" And I was like "do you want perfect crust on your potatoes?" "Yeah" "Do you want your beef medium?" "Yeah" "Do you also want that chocolate mousse afterwards?" "Yeah" "Than stop whining."

Cooking is also multi-tasking and planning.

Maybe once or twice a week. Normally I make lunch/cook throughout the week, unless I forget lunch the night before...

Usually go out on Friday for lunch with friends. For the weekends I usually prefer to go to the grocery store and get whatever I feel like at the time, since it's usually cheaper and I can buy multiple meals at once. Sometimes I just get the craving for taco bell that can't be ignored  :))

That said, if certain establishments were in my city this would change...example: Steak & Shake, Friendly's (I miss this place :( ), In-N-Out, etc.

Every time I have gotten Popeye's it's been dry thin and stringy. I have given that place so many chances in so many different locations, and every single time they have let me down severely with their sorry excuse for breaded shoe leather. Every year or so I give them another shot when I hear someone talking about how great they are, and every time they fail me.

Well, Chicken Breast is going to be dryer..

But you have to go when it's FRESH..  in the MIDDLE of lunch hour, or slightly after is when they got the most hot stuff..

You might just not like chicken breast.. They allow THIGH substitution, so if you get a 20 piece,  just tell them you want all THIGHS in place of the breasts,

The Thighs are epic-juicy and very very rarely dry.

You want white non-spicy,   the spicy is a little dryer because it's in the freezer longer, less people get them.. so they lose some moisture being there longer.

FROM EXPERIENCE..  Tp4 still gets the Chicken Breast,  but Tp4 eats it with the MASHPOTATO and EXTRA gravy..

You want white non-spicy,   the spicy is a little dryer because it's in the freezer longer, less people get them.. so they lose some moisture being there longer.

FROM EXPERIENCE..  Tp4 still gets the Chicken Breast,  but Tp4 eats it with the MASHPOTATO and EXTRA gravy..

if by "juicy" you mean greasier than all holy **** than yea, pretty juicy. breading tastes like ass too...

You're all going at the wrong times..

The breading is delicious..

Fried chicken is ONLY perfect within a small time-window outta the fryer.

It takes some practice to get the timing down..

I've had bad fried chicken at every chicken place....

Popeyes imho is the best because they get the most traffic, and the most CONSISTENT traffic..

You also can't go to a popeyes near white neighborhoods... gotta go where there's high demand.. m0re fresh..

Don't worry, no one gets knocked off @ popeyes, it's neutral territory..

Maybe 2 times a week, 3 max.

Pretty slim pickings where  I live (some damn good taco shops though). Where I work there's more choices so it's more tempting, but I usually bring a lunch. Double bacon cheeseburger, large tots and drink for $7 is hard to pass up from a mom & pop burger joint.

Ha! I'm in the same boat. Not quite that often, but it's an almost daily occurrence. It's just so easy and cheap. And I'm ****ing lazy.

All the Chinese food places near me have a $30 minimum for delivery and are not very good :(

During finals and midterms relatively often. Outside of those periods, not too often. I enjoy cooking and make the overwhelming amount of my food. Not to say that isn't in itself somewhat problematic, some weeks I'll go to the grocers three or four times a week.

A bunch of roads are closed by my house so I had to take some alternate routes. Noticed a burgers/chicken joint in a not so nice area.

Tried them out

1. Porkroll + egg +cheese on a burger w/ fries
2. Falafel sammich w/ Mozzo sticks
3. 10 wings
4. Buffalo chicken sammich w/ fries
5. Drinks

Food was amazing, I love the hood spots

I never do delivery. I'll always go pick up.

I tried pho takeout recently and it was terribly clunky + you get half the broth than when you eat at the place. Never again.

I'd say I do takeout once every two weeks or so.
My wife I a also push her button . But now she have her button push by a different men. So I buy a keyboard a mechanicale, she a reliable like a Fiat.

Please tell me... is it true that in the USA take out / delivery is more cheap than actually cooking yourself?

Coz in the Netherlands take out / delivery is more seen as "luxury" and usually is as expensive as or even more than cooking yourself.

only fast food places for people with no low-cost large grocery stores nearby afaik.
I'm not in the US but this is what people tell me :p

in Sweden where I'm from, it's way more expensive to eat out than even here in Canada.

Depends on the place. Pizza is generally cheaper than home cooking, as the big chains try to compete and offer 2 mediums for $12 which is like a day and a half worth of food. Little Ceaser's is $5 for a large pizza.

I've ordered pizza for entire weeks before and it usually costs a little more than half of my total would-be grocery store bill. Food is also extremely expensive where I live, so generally it is much cheaper to get delivery unless you're eating Top Ramen and Banquet meals at home every day, and that can be about as unhealthy as eating pizza everyday. Low income nutrition in America is abysmal, and people wonder why folks in poorer areas are usually unhealthy and obese.
