Record Store Day 2016
« on: Sat, 16 April 2016, 10:37:48 »
Anyone out there scooping hot new vinyl?

Grabbed sublime and dilla for a friend. My three most wanted items were not in the local store. Pinback, vrtj, and ol' dirty bastard.

No, back then it wasn't a fad, it was the correct way to listen to music.

Today, the Majority of buyers are not listening to vinyl, they're collecting them, putting them on the shelf to gather dust.

Ah.
That makes me sad. :(

I catch only the Pokémon I will use.

Ended up getting to my local Newbury Comics about an hour late, as I didn't realize they opened at 8am for RSD. Apparently I was the first person to buy anything hip-hop related. Very happy with my purchases!

Wrong

Pokemon is still Pokemon to me

And vinyl is a more enjoyable way to listen to music with friends, creates a great atmosphere.

Although I guess those with no friends may indeed just let it gather dust.

My haul of the day, super happy I managed to snag the Sublime. Sad that someone took the last "This is Trojan" boxset right before my eyes.

134586-0

from left to right:
The Belairs - Volcanic Action (Surf)
John Coltraine - The Roullette sessions (Jazz)
Kapitan Korsakov (Noise-rock)
Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes - Loss (Punk)
The Skatalites - 45 boxset (Ska)
Sublime - Jah won't pay the bills (ska - reggae - punk)

Kapitan Korsakov is a Belgian release, it's the original band of Pieter-Paul Devos, who you might know from RAKETKANON.
Their best known song here in Belgium:

How is listening to it with friends anymore enjoyable than listening to the same album on tape, CD, or any other medium?  Is there more interaction or something?  I don't listen to vinyl so I don't understand the recent surge in popularity.

The resurgence of vinyl? I've been DITC for 20+ years. Obviously a TON of other people have because NONE of these mom'n'pop stores would even exist right now to even have a record store day.

****... just to try to get samples, I'd go in the dumpster behind Siren Records and take all the rotten, scratched up **** they'd purge when they copped collections from people.

This year I got slowed down and was waaaaaaaaaaaaay late and got squat. I was mainly looking for some "pinback" **** for some weird dude.
My wife I a also push her button . But now she have her button push by a different men. So I buy a keyboard a mechanicale, she a reliable like a Fiat.

Totally missed RSD this year, whoops.

Just looked through the list, luckily I'm not really seeing anything that I feel like I need to own at least.

On the other hand, that 7" of Hocus Pocus by Focus...
