Do you nap?
« on: Tue, 17 May 2016, 12:53:18 »
I've recently been listening to some common day 'motivators' talk about the importance of napping to spur creativity and keep you energized.

I'm curious if we have any nappers here?

And just to be clear I mean actually taking a nap as in sleeping for 15-30 minutes or longer during your normal waking hours not whatever alternative definitions there are out there.

Don't want this to turn into another 'smoking cheese' misunderstanding

I think there are days where I would perform better at work if I could take a 30 minute nap.

When I interned in China everyone took like a 30 minute nap after lunch.

Sometimes I try to nap when my baby is napping, but I usually opt to play video games instead, which I later regret when I'm tired.

Hahahahahhhahaha

These are the ploys of self-help-industry..

It works like this..

They take some , general-truth, like,  sleeping is good for you and the many aspects of your life..

Say that this one thing is AWESOME for this one --other-- thing...

They may or may not be related,   but because it's something VERY easy to do, they taunt it in such a way that makes you HOPEFUL that you can drastically improve your life by doing this VERY -EASY- THING..

Then you buy their CD, or Audiobook, or Selfhelp book,  Cha ching..

Yes,  you've just paid for the advice,  Sleeping = good..

Lately I have been getting super tired at around 8pm which is probably the worst time to nap. It sucks cause it's to the point where I cannot keep my eyes open, but too late for coffee, and if I go to bed I'll wake up at 3am which is no good.

Finally fix my circadian rhythm and along comes some other sleep issue to take it's place >:(

http://priceonomics.com/the-nasa-studies-on-napping/ However, that was about rather extreme situations.

I find it much better to adjust the lifestyle to simply avoid needing naps. This involves getting a healthy amount of sleep (8-9 hours a night in my case), reducing stress, avoiding sedentary lifestyle and overeating, proper timing of stuff like exercise or cold showers,…

Maybe not quite what you were thinking, but I nap on the train on the way home most nights.

The other night I fell asleep entering the city loop, and didn't wake up until about two stations before I had to get off.  That doesn't happen often - usually I nap fitfully as the window rims aren't quite wide enough to comfortably rest an elbow on so I keep waking up when my arm slips.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

That sounds refreshing actually.

I find myself wanting to nap on the drive to and from work but the car doesn't drive itself. :(

I don't, but people here love to nap whenever and wherever. A lot of people do it at their desks, which I think is really odd. People are always falling asleep on trains no matter the time of day. It's common to have someone nodding off on your shoulder on a train.

Also, there is a much better welfare syste,. so there is much less poverty down undah than in the US, hence there's not a lot of reason for crime to begin with.

Here in the good ol' US of A, we prefer not to give handouts to those stinky poor people as we'd rather let them pull themselves up by their bootstraps or turn to a life of crime so we can imprison them at greater taxpayer expense.  We prefer to save the handouts for those that really need it like large corporations who ship jobs and profits overseas.

Either during my lunch break or after work, I gotta nap.

Alternatively I could stop with the piss-poor diet and sleeping pattern, and believe me, I'm trying. But when possums are having an orgy outside your window and the neighbours are playing the "lets insult each other in Turkish" game with the dog trying to join in, it's a little difficult.

10 years of this nonsense.
Oh, well, not the possums, they come and go.

Yea I like a good nap.
