Eneloop Swaps
« on: Sun, 29 May 2016, 18:17:14 »
Tp4 am Eneloop die-hard..   Soldered in a 2nd gen 2000mah HR-3UTGA japan into my budget-shaver today..

Many people don't know this, but you can Solder to eneloops with a good sanding of the contacts and Lots of flux.

Anyone else have the compulsion to put these batteries in everything?

In case anyone is in the market for Eneloops..

Make sure to get  BK-3MCCA,   they're the latest Gen of Eneloops (5th)..

Double check box says made-in-japan,  there are China versions which ---allegedly--- arn't as good..

---allegedly--- because these are quite new, and not many people have worn them out as they're rated for 2100 cycles..

I have a couple of 3400mAh 18650 Li-ion batteries (Panasonic), and a couple 1100mAh 18500 Li-ion batteries (?) from my ecig days but.. nothing that would need soldering.. Ni-MH huh.. hmmm

Well, lithium is good, but for budget devices, they're all designed with 1.2v-1.35v in mind...

So I can't just stick normal lithium cells in there.

You wouldn't get one of those weirdo 1.5v lithiums.. they're not well regarded..  and many times,  if you put them in there, they won't charge properly because the circuit is designed to charge nicd or nimh..

Lithium requires more voltage to charge, so if its detecting a higher starting volt, it won't even charge right..

And because lithium REQUIRES that last bit of voltage which accounts for 10-20 % of it's capacity,   a swap from nicd//nimh into lithium is mostly not possible.

I shave in the shower, that thing would be toast in under a minute :p

But 2100 cycles is intriguing for other stuffs imo

Eneloops are nice batteries. Never felt the need to solder them into anything though.
