Anyone do transcriptionist work?
« on: Sun, 26 June 2016, 23:51:58 »
Seeing as all of you have an exceptional love of keyboards, I was curious if anyone does online transcription work?  I was thinking about starting to do some in my off time, just to make a little extra $ here and there, and wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts on the subject.

Believe it or not the vast majority of this community doesn't type at a decent enough speed or accuracy. It's actually one of the oddest/most infuriating things waiting for people to type you a message :D

the younger gen wouldn't type very fast at the entrance to this hobby because they come from games.. and they all got the voice chat now.. and their chatting on the phone via thumbs.

If you enjoy typing and can find the work, go for it. Is there that much work out there?

Like any skill, being good at it makes it easy but until you get good, it's a chore.
From the US Constitution, Article 1, Section 8 :

The   Congress   shall have Power

To provide for calling forth the Militia  to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions;

I haven't really thought about doing such a thing. I might try and give it a go, could probably make some extra cash in my off time by doing it.

If anyone asks, we didn't have this conversation.  Ha!  :))

No, the main reason I was thinking about doing this is because my typing is decent, and since I don't get to type during work, and gaming in the off time doesn't really promote it, I thought it might be a good way to get a little extra moola here and there, but the biggest complaint was that either people don't get paid for the work they do because it's "unsatisfactory", or there just isn't enough work.  I think the main site I was looking at was transcribeme or something along those lines.

I know a couple of bilingual people that do translations, one is an old prof, so he prefers pen and paper, the other types the translation.

IIRC there are a few online sites that work as a platform for people wanting to get material translated and translators.

So easy.
Just type faster than you can think and then have spellcheck fix it all.
You can type twice as fast as normal and only spend a few minutes correcting it all.
