I just watched Kotonoha no Niwa, that movie and 5cm per second such great movies  :thumb:

I like Darker than Black.
FLCL is also a good classic  :thumb:
I heard Madoka was surprisingly good. Anything produced by shaft is decent. Bakemonogatari and all the other gataris

I really wanted to like Bakemonogatari, but it was just boring. I loved the characters and art style but couldn't get into the story. Is Nisemonogatari much different?

Nisemonogatari starts off slowly but it picks up midway. Monogatari is pretty good.
I think these shows are harder to get into because the style (conversational, puns, satire) and not much happens.
I got pretty bored watching Nisemonogatari.
I'm not sure if native Japanese speakers would this show more engaging but I think they'd appreciate the dialogue more than us.

Yeah, it's obviously focused very heavily on dialogue and I wouldn't be surprised if some of the finer parts of it got lost in translation or were simply lost due to culture differences. Interesting show no doubt, but it gets dull due to the general lack of action. I remember Bakemonogatari becoming really intriguing when the last couple episodes finally broke the monotony.

I imagine I'll get around to nise eventually, but at this point I've got such a huge backlog that "eventually" could mean a very long time  :p

I've been enjoying Fairy Tail of late-- it has a "off-brand One Piece" feel to it.  A similar art style, and plenty of worldbuilding and foreshadowing in the first 48 episodes-- all that's on Netflix presently.

Perhaps because Eiichiro Oda was the author and artist for both?

I've heard it's one of Oda's assistants; much as how he started out as an assistant for the guy doing Ruroni Kenshin if I recall right.

I just looked it up, you're right. The art always seemed so similar that I thought they were both from the same author, but I was mistaken.

it is very difficult to watch, and it's not even a factor that it's an old anime (18 years?) aside from the MD player... there's really nothing that ties it down... other than imo it's just not that good.
i mean back then, it was great animation and action.

and there is a remake, and tp4 is correct, even the re-makes have top notch animation/action, but it's still not that good.

and i'm not even talking about the glaring point that makes this anime unwatchable, that your POV (point of view) character is an emo b4 emo was a thing.

imo if they wanted to redo evangelion correctly, they should have done it from the POV of asuka (the redhead), she's at least mildly interesting. (however japanese suck at even attempting to make a decent POV from a girl, let alone a good one, 99.9% of animes have  a male, non sailormoon(magical girl) type pov, and they all suck, only good one is 12kingdoms)

Started Black Lagoon yesterday after numerous recommendations.  One word: AWESOME

I've heard you have to get through the first 10 episodes to get hooked..

I've tried maybe 6 times now.. furthest I got was episode 4..  sigh.... one day... one day...

Now that I nearly finished watching the whole series, I have to agree.  The later episodes are definitely better.  They are all basically 2-4 episode "mini story arcs."  You can jump straight to them IMO.  I recommend starting with episode 8 "Rasta Blasta"

I think that's "Excalibur" from Soul Eater.

Re-watching The 08th MS Team, such an awesome show.

My roommate and I watched the first 5 episodes of Basilisk last night, it's pretty cool. Very Ninja Scroll influenced.

Planning on finally watching Zeta Gundam (and maybe a few of the other early ones) when I finish The 08th.
Man, I just watched 08 mst, it was great!

I liked all of black lagoon equally, even the earlier episodes.

Thanks for all the recommendations in this topic, I'm sure I'll find something good to watch next. Currently I'm watching Full Metal Panic, as recommended by my old roommate.

good lord FMP is old as ****, which FMP are you watching? from memory there's FMP then the second season second raid, and then a spin off "slice of life" fumoffu. if it turns out you really like FMP, an anime i'd recommend would be Nadesico then, whatever you liked in FMP you'll see in Nadesico, only Nadesico is really old (like 97), i'm not an anime snob. but 95ish, is really where i can't go back, but with Nadesico, the animation, even in 97 (and imo holds up and is better than budget anime they pimp out now)is great since XEBEC did it

I tried watching Kill La Kill. The fan service pissed me off too much to watch it much longer.

Finished with Fate/Zero yesterday, great anime but the end was a bit wierd. I know this is supposed to be before the story in Fate/Stay Night though. Just a bit curious if it is worth to see Fate/Stay Night since I heard it is not as good. :/

i really like the second season just as much as the first. i really like the immigration and individual 11 story line. GITS is realer to me because of the politics that are involved as well as the philosophy. this is a show made for adults with an adult brain.

i have to admit its weakness though. the music in the show is great but the opening credits and end credits tracks in both seasons are just plain awful and the lyrical content of those tracks is hilariously bad. i really want to find a 1080p rip of these shows without the opening or ending credits.

hit up nyaa torrent. it usually will have the credits, but there are chapter marks so you just press page down to skip it.
