Is butter not sold in 1 pound blocks any more?

I never buy it that way, but it used to be common enough.

Still comes in 1lb blocks, but usually divided into 4 sticks..

The question is merely how much did ya'll guys eat back then..

Cuz I never see people butter stuff no more..

The butter tray at the cafes remain largely unused.

That picture is missing the most important part of the butter-on-untoasted-white-bread breakfast: sugar. Sprinkle some plain, white sugar on that **** and you have the 80's power breakfast.

edit: And if funds were a little less tight, there was the always amazing peanut butter and banana on white bread breakfast. Sugar optional.

Buttered toast with sugar and cinnamon, poor mans french toast.  My dad broke his neck when I was in second grade and my mom worked as a janitor so yeah, we had it rough growing up.

But on topic, I was 2 in '84 so not sure.  But I do know we NEVER bought margarine.  That stuff is nasty.  Real butter is better for you anyway.  But you can still get it in 1 pound blocks.  We used to when growing up.

Butter is perfectly fine to eat, and people should stop worrying about it. On a piece of buttered toast with jam, the butter is the healthiest ingredient. Definitely stay away from all the various disgusting fake-butter products, even if they now have stopped filling it with trans fats. It’s not something I would want to do, but eating pure butter would be way healthier than eating oreos.

Cooking stuff in butter (or ghee, or lard, or duck fat, or beef tallow, etc.) is better for you than cooking with rapeseed oil or whatever alternative, as well as being more delicious. Just don’t burn it.

People should reduce the soda, fruit juice, cookies, chips, pasta, rice, bread, mashed potatoes, etc. in their diet before they start worrying about butter.

People should also stop worrying about the cholesterol in eggs, sodium, reasonable amounts of meat (though they should probably eat more skin, connective tissue, bone marrow, organ meat, etc.), and so on.

Overall, everyone would probably benefit from eating more vegetables though.

If you’re going to make a peanut butter and banana sandwich, I strongly recommend adding bacon, and upgrading to some fresh bread.

Ya, when I was a kid bacon and fresh bread were not options.

Now I never touch a piece of white bread. But growing up even having peanut butter was a luxury.

I didn’t say don’t eat any pasta at all. Spaghetti is great if you have about 1 part noodles to 2 parts sauce (canned San Marzano tomatoes, tons of garlic, some ****ake mushroom, some wine, at least half an onion, enough miscellaneous veggies (bell pepper, carrot, or whatever you prefer), a good quantity of sausage or something, and enough olive oil or butter.)

The noodles are just empty calories though. (Or at any rate, provide more glucose than you need unless you’re a serious athlete or peasant farmer or something, without providing too much in the way of other nutrients.)

I hate the word "butter". It sounds like ****. In American it's pronounced "buddurrr" which sounds retarded and in English it's pronounced "buh-uh" which barely even qualifies as a word Oo .

As long as it has not been "cured" with nitrites like many sausages and sandwich meats.
Smoked meat is probably not good either.

I would've been, at most, 6 months old in 1984 so I probably wasn't eating any butter at all.  Nowadays, my wife cooks pretty much everything with butter so I have a very healthy amount of butter in my diet, and since we get it from Costco it's cheap too!

It is odd to see it in a one pound block though, because as far back as I can remember we always had the four ounce sticks.

Mostly depends on whether the butter was an accessory to the biscuit, or whether the biscuit was a delivery vehicle to get the butter to your mouth.

You should always only buy unsalted butter. When they make butter, it is tested and tasted.
All the pure good butter stays unsalted and anything with a rancid or "off" taste is salted which disguises the unappealing taste.

Huh, well you could always salt it if you need salt. I like the taste of unsalted. I don't feel like I need to wash my face after I eat it like I do when I eat salted butter.

I loved this movie as a kid.

I think more cooking/baking was done back then, when there weren't as many delivery or fast food options. I don't think I would like the feel or taste of taking a bite of butter.

Try it...

It has to come from a butter dish though..

If you eat it out of the fridge, it doesn't taste very good..

many people have these old-sticks of butter in the fridge from since Nam..

that works fine for cooking, but it wouldn't even be good on toast.

While I agree with some of the things behind keto...  I'm not terribly sure our body was designed to digest the Quantity of Fat necessary to replace such a significant portion of calories..

I think that's the trick, redesigning your body to use fat as the main source of energy rather than carbs.

I think our bodies weren't designed for the sedentary life style most of us live now-a-days either.
