My 17 year old cousin is in treatment at MD Anderson in Houston for a really rare type of Lymphoma. He and his parents had to relocate from about 5 hours away because he needs to stay close by during chemo. His parents don't have much money, so they started a gofundme to pay for the treatment (I imagine they have s*** insurance because they are very short-sighted). They have received around $13,000 out of their $150,000 goal. We have a lot of family in Houston and several of them have offered to take them in for the duration of his treatment (4 months). One of my aunts lives alone in a beautiful three bedroom house that's a five minute walk from the hospital. Instead of staying with family for free, they decided they needed their own apartment.
Went for a visit today and the apartment is actually more of a condo. Just looked them up online, and their floor-plan is right at $3,500 a month. They've been there since late December, so they've most likely blown through all of the gofundme money already. It just seems like his parents are more concerned with going on a 4-month vacation (complete with palm-trees and a Jacuzzi) than their sons treatment. Just a little disgusted right now.
