Verizon's telling me my Moto X which I got from motorola has to be factory reset in order to fix my text messages not being received (although I can send them) because the provisioning which was done when I activated the phone is no longer supported. I am not smart enough to understand this and it makes me really frustrated. 

I had a Motorola phone for a hot minute a while back. I remember it made me setup some kind of Motorola account during the initial setup. It had all kinds of issues, and I had to factory reset it. It didn't solve the problem, and the Motorola account I originally setup ended up being the source of the issue. AT&T had no clue how to fix it, so they let me replace it with a Galaxy S2.

If you're ok with paying for apps.. get the iPhone..

If you want free arrrgh-matey apps.. Nexus.. (best supported android fone)



That's really the largest difference..  Everything else can be done on either platform..

Well if I got the iphone it would be for my wife. I would most likely either get a moto x pure or galaxy s7.

But preferably I'd like to not have to get anything right now.

I owned the original iphone. Never had a problem with freezing. I've read that iphones are pretty secure as is. There have been some nasty apps in the store but these days that is to be expected.

The only issue with samsung, is that if a software issue does come up.. it takes much longer to get a fix..  and many times the fix isn't even possible if the fone isn't rootable..  and then you gotta spend all day doing this fix, reading poorly written guides and such..


Ipho doesn't have this issue,  and while the Nexus has software problems from time to time, it gets the fix pretty quickly..  on Samsung.. It might take like a whole year.. so.. hahahaha.

Why are you trying to clone it if you had backups? Clean installations are much less problematic in the long run. I only clone VMs these days. ...I'm really surprised you're having so much trouble doe...

Well actually it was an older windows 7 install I could dual boot into and I used it as backup storage.

I'm just trying to avoid doing a clean install because I'll have to install windows 7 then upgrade to 10 then fix everything I don't like in 10. Then reinstall everything.

That sucks that you're having so much trouble.

Make sure you get a bit by bit copy  (no "smart" or "fast" clone)

and

Double check all of your BIOS settings (and make sure the SSD firmware is up to date). This is, of course, assuming that you are just trying to do "disk" to "disk" and not partitions. That's another topic of it's own.
