I have a groundbreaking idea: what if postal services could deliver parcels to your local, secure, high capacity, specially equipped... post office?
I know! They did away with post offices where I live a long time ago. En****tification is older than the word.

It even used to be common to mail-order things and pay for them — in cash — when you picked them up at the post office.

Although the US Post Office was established in the Constitution as an important service, since the Reagan era the Republicans have been trying to kill it so that other "carriers" can cash in on delivery services.

The postal system will collapse long before we fix the porch pirate issue.  We're rapidly running out of fuel.  40% of all marine traffic is just OIL/GAS/FOSSIL shipments.

20 years. It will all seem like a dream then.

PO is far away by bus/foot, plus the wait is atrocious and their hours are inconvenient

My property has a secure locker area, but not all carriers use it. I especially notice SpeedPak and UniUni just leave your item at your doorstep instead of using the locker room. Usually anything from China gets poor treatment from start to end of its journey.

Billy from GameChasers passed away from brain cancer. I've been watching his channel on YT for since like 2010/11 and him and Jay are what got me into game collecting more seriously.
RIP rest easy

I booked a consolation trip to Visby for tomorrow. Then I found that almost everything in that town is closed on Sundays and Mondays. I already regret it.

Omg, just realized, Tp4 had 2 wall warts plugged in one for cellphone one for laptop.

Jesus christ. What a waste of electricity, when 1 can power both devices.

The cellphone can often fast charge from its charger but not from the laptop's USB port.

Indeed, but I am a vegetarian, and I was referring mostly to places to eat. I'm not keen on eating the same greasy fast food every day or overpriced half-measures with no nutrition, protein or taste.

And a small correction:it isn't just the weekdays but it being off-season.
You'd think restaurants could update their web sites/facebook page or at least put a sign up on their physical door shen they are closed, but no. Also, that travel/map sites that I'm using for search could take seasons into account: of course not.
I'm used to having to walk around a bit to find a restaurant that serves something decent, but I'm not used to this level. I waste about half my awake time either on the web or walking trying to chase somewhere to eat, and I still end up at a tourist trap. If I had been in Japan now as I had originally planned, food would be a treat — not a burden, and even the "tourist traps" cost only like a normal lunch over here.

In addition to local post offices and accurate trains that can take you almost to Japan, Russia also has an impressive choice of vegetarian food.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

You cannot create a FB profile w/ the last name King?!? Claims you cannot use titles as a name.
Then you get banned for not using your real name!
What sort of asinine system is that?

That is very strange, those are not even uncommon names. But you are probably better off without Facebook.

OMG. Jesaschrstin.

DO NOT get in trouble with the Law you guys.  The bureaucratic procedures,  Tp4 working from the sidelines about to just give up.  It's unending, and it goes no where.

If you're a normal person, you can't afford this, better off just going to jail for the free southern cruisine.

The disruptions of EU's air traffic has increased.  Russia has been doing GPS jamming and GPS spoofing for a long time now, which is a big nuisance around the Baltic sea and Black Sea.
You can see on Flightradar23 that that every plane crossing the Black Sea just north of Turkey (many miles south of Crimea) has a squiggly line, because their navigation equipment has reported wrong. Pilots have to retort to older navigation techniques because GPS readouts are unreliable.

Back on the 15th, I heard about chaos at Schiphol airport, Amsterdam from passengers coming from there, the cause unknown. The days after, there were "cyberattacks" on several airports. Then several drone incursions in Poland and Romania, and then near airports in Copenhagen and Oslo, closing the airports down. Russian military planes have been crossing into EU air space for minutes at a time.
Last night, part of the air space in Poland was closed off, because of drones. The flights I had planned to take to and from Japan were going to be in GPS-jammed Baltic sea, GPS-jammed corridor between Lithuania and Poland, the closed-off air space in Poland, and the GPS-jammed area in the Black sea.

But really... we should have laws that limit air travel altogether in favour of high-speed trains running on renewable energy.
Every person should be given an air travel quota per year that they can either use for shorter trips or save up for a longer trip a few years ahead, but not be able to transfer to other people.
I know some Swedish people take their whole family to Thailand every year, and that is just a crazy amount of CO₂.

GPS jamming and GPS spoofing

The human race has become absurdly addicted to GPS. And almost none of us can understand how thoroughly its tentacles have reached into the crevices of our lives, and, even if we did, we wouldn't know how to resist it - short of going off-grid altogether.

Elon Musk's network (would "swarm" be a better term?) of (very) low orbit satellites is the cornerstone of his future wealth and control of Earth (assuming that he doesn't completely fry his brain before then). Although his wealth is currently held in his electric car company, once serious competition comes around he will abandon (or sell off) the project to concentrate on getting his GPS embedded in every component of human life.
As George Orwell put it:
Journalism is printing what someone else does not want printed; everything else is public relations.

We already lost the electric cars battle.

The US economy is desperately clinging onto it and the AI-tech bubble in the numbers game.

German bank published a report saying, the US economy is in recession or slightly above flat if the AI bubble was removed.

And we're all certain at this point, AI is not producing the necessary cash influx (in services) to justify the Data(ntr buildout / resource consumption.

So.... Long term,  we'll have to foot the bill as a public bail-out, as is typical in business culture,  annnnnnd, throw it in the pile of mostly wasteful useless consumerist machines.

If we want to build electric cars, we need a massive labor force that will work in near slavery conditions,  If you remove Asia dominated by the Chinese,     then we're left with South America.

If we don't take South America, we can kiss electric cars good bye.

Ts  lr  g1g fac(try   is a TINY fraction of the full supply chain of an Electric vehicle,   the energy infrastructure, the Mining, the Refinery the Transport, largely Dwarf  Tsl rrr.

There is NO MONEY being put into that Primary Machine.  All the (money) is in g1grfrt ry,

The reason is, it takes 20-30 years before a Refinery even breaks even, they're dirty, expensive if you want to minimize pollution, not cost competitive with high-pollution no regulation versions. Modern institutions have no appetite for this type of investment.

We also don't have a workforce "WILLING" to work the dirty jobs, <paid any amount of money>, out general population flat out, Won't Do It.

You can build 9999^9999 gi gafr(trees,  it would be useless because we don't control the "feed stock" in any meaningful way.

But it's important to understand, electric vehicles = FOSSIL FUEL powered.

Nothing in the pipeline is fully Electric.  The Energy economy, is PRIMARILY DIESEL powered.  Mining, Large Transport.

Electricity only makes up a tiny 15-25% of our total energy economy.

It's also NOT A REPLACEMENT for the Co-products of OIL,  SUCH AS, Asphalt, Plastics

Wind Turbines = Fossil Fuel powered.  (Steel / Plastics / Rare Earth mining / Copper) None of which can be produced through electricity alone.

Solar Panels = Fossil Fuel powered. (Steel, Aluminum/ Glass/ Photovoltaics / Copper ) again, electricity can't produce this stuff.

THERE is no energy revolution.
