First harvest of the year.

Looks good, what are you gonna make with it?
keyboard collection - fjell

cherry blacks - unlubed - filmed and springswapped with tx 55g mediums - alu Plate | pretty happy with this, the blacks were cherry picked so they weren't that scratchy to begin with, but currently breaking them in, may lube them with a dry lube like ro59 or ptfe powder.

lubed with tribosys 3203 | like topre a lot, prefer it lubed but did make less tactile but that might have been a skill issue. probably will get more tactile over time as the domes age.

bad orange alps lol | definitely needs a restoration. planning on wax boiling them and maybe a replacement pcb because the board has only 2 key rollover apparently.

gateron yellows - lubed with 205g0 - 62g tx mediums - pc plate | probably my favourite keyboard already, feels super nice and sounds pretty good, it's got a great layout as well. probably gonna build this with mx browns, I feel like it would suit the board more.

stock with silent reds | Pretty cool looking board, the silent reds are actually good, they are smooth and I don't mind the mushiness (it's not even that mushy as well). the layout is pretty weird, but is useable. will probably mod this in the future. maybe a pcb and plate swap, change the keycaps to something dolch like, and also spring swap the springs in the silent reds.

Built with new nixies on pc half plate. Love this board already, probably the best looking board I own, those brass accents are so mint. Really like it as is, but I do want to try an alu build (probably with nixies as well) just to experiment with that.

Tomato's are easy to grow. And they like the shade. Not too much sun.  The red lycopene is a super strong antioxidant.

I disagree, these tomatoes are in full hard sun all day long.

But it has grown up like a jungle and the canopy is so dense I have trouble even finding the fruit. They are making their own shade.

I plan to chop this in cubes and simmer it in olive oil and butter for about half an hour with no other seasonings beside some light salt and pepper.

Well, and maybe a couple of shakes of soy sauce.

Start with onions/garlic/peppers.

Add squash.

Add tomatoes.

Multiple servings ready to eat. I am guessing that I can have this every other day for a week.

My dad was always a big hard pretzel fan, and Snyder's of Hanover was pretty much a staple of our home growing up. But I recently discovered this brand, that has apparently been around for a while, called Unique Snacks, and holy crow, they may be the best hard pretzels I've ever had in my life. They lack the girth of a Snyder's, but the taste is incredible! Plus they make an Extra Dark version that is a bit burnt that might be even better than their Original as well.

If you enjoy pretzels, and spot Unique Splits in your local shop, I would highly recommend them!

Oyster restaurants. Do people not understand what filter feeder means. They retain the radiation and other industrial run offs from the water. Delicious raw sewage.  ;D

When I was fishmongering I always tried to explain to people that farmed oysters are much MUCH cleaner and healthier since they are in a controlled environment where they act as a giant biological filter for the water. I would explain that the water is actually cleaner than surroundings due to the oyster farms, and their chance for disease and parasites are exponentially lower. But people don't listen or care, all they hear is what they have been fed "Farmed seafood=automatically bad"

Farmed oysters can be cleaner than wild. Howerver they are not less dangerous to eat if they're farmed in open water.

Are you saying that today's oysters live in cleaner water because yesterday's oysters and last year's oysters were continuously cleaning that micro environment?

With oysters they restrict harvest if the water is too dirty.  So that happens. The oysters stay there. Until the water tests clean. But the oysters already continuously BIoaccumulated toxins from their history of dirty water.   It's just not a good idea in general to eat filter feeders from the modern ocean where sewage is largely unregulated.   They restrict harvest for West Coast oysters when Sewage from Tijuana gets up in there.   Which means it's just one large dumping pool.  Then there's the continuous flow of radiation from Fukushima as the water passes through the leaking reactor building in direct core contact.

Today's harvest. Already worrying about how to utilize, preserve, and give away - and it is still early July!

They've been eating all the tomatoes.

Found prepackaged scallion pancakes in the freezer, expiration dated, 2017.

Fried up great, tastes fine.. a great vintage..

Crust is a little dry because the water came out of the flour, but frying, it just tastes kinda like potato chips.

Where do you .... have mice and tomatoes?

I would say that nearly anybody in the US could have mice and tomatoes.

Notice that I said "could"

Last year I was pleased to find that a small snake had moved into my house and taken care of my mouse problem.

Does that really work, 1 snake could eat only a few mice a month. You would need a really big one.

It has been shown that merely the presence of a snake in rodent's territory can be enough to send them packing to a different location. But at a certain point, the snake will up and leave as well due to the food no longer being there.

Just checked, snakes are pretty expensive to buy. The mousetrap is $15 for 3x.

You'd also have to feed the snake to keep it around no?

Tp4 uses peanut butter + crushed potato chips for the mousetrap bait.

Just some simple garter snakes will do the trick. Corn or gopher snakes if you want to get fancy.

I think that mine was a juvenile black rat snake, but it may have been a black racer. I only saw it 3 times, very briefly.

Purchasing a snake is an absurd idea.

Not a question I hear every day.

On the other hand, I have a groundhog living under my shed who seems to be leaving all my non-squash vegetables alone.

That's cute. It's like an apartment building growing a beard.

"Bearding" is actually the correct term for it. Bees like a temperature of about 95F/35C but if that is the temperature outside in the summer you can imagine what it is like inside a wooden box with a metal roof. Workers circle the queen and fan her with their wings.

In the winter they form a tight ball with the queen in the center, and rotate inside to out so that nobody has to stay in the cold too long.

After watching the first episode of the TV show  Omnivore  I went out into the garden and found the hottest pepper I had, and ate it whole, on the spot.

Although, it was not nearly as hot as the ghost peppers the host of the show served to his staff and diners, it was still an interesting experience. I sat in my favorite chair and breathed through my mouth for about 10 minutes, almost as if I had taken a hit of some new type of drug. Then there was a distinct drop in intensity and for another 10 minutes or so my mouth was still feeling an intense heat but the real "burn" had mostly subsided.

In 20 minutes it was mostly over, with just a bit of tingling of the lips.

Heat from Capsaicin requires substance P,  if you generate enough constant pain along the path of ingestion, substance-P is depleted, you can no longer feel the pain.

I forgot you are supposed to press the water out of tofu to fry it up, and now I have a mess of crumbly crap that resembles poorly scrambled eggs

You just keep frying until it's crispy on medium heat.

Well, technically, it's better than taking anti-depressants. Let's call it 80% win.

About to eat Peanut Butter Kimchi Bagel.

Here we go..

It's pretty good. Key is to have lots of kimchi to balance the greasiness of the peanut butter.

These Yopokki Snacks surprised me. I expected nothing, but they were better than I'd imagined. Good sweet/spicy savory snack perfect for when you are 3 beers deep and skipped dinner. I thought the packaging was overkill, but there was legitimately not one single broken piece in the entire container. Zero crumbs on the bottom.
