All that dipping and re-dipping is very tricky.
Oil can be filtered and re-used if you are patient.

In principle yes, but in reality, the high heat actually begins to destroy the fats at quite a low temperature, so even if it looks reasonably clear, there are actually lots of broken-fats in the solution.

This has been implicated in Multiple-Sclerosis, where the construction of the myelination process produces brittle/rigid myelin sheath from bad fats, which in conjunction with other triggers result in demyelination over time.

If you've eaten at restaurants, they don't swap the fry oil until it's a very deep brown color. This is especially true in today's economy. Restaurants big and small do it now.

Tp4 would eat at least 40 of them dumplings.

This happens with my family as well.
While I want to make some nice restaurant portions, they want more, so I barely have few secs to take photo :) and need to add more food to their plates.
Joking of course - I take whatever time I need to take photo, their food gets cold :D

No, this was freshly boiled. I guess day old would be dried and better for frying.
Phinix cooks almost always enough rice to be eaten at first serve, no leftovers. If any, then eaten next day, but rarely :)

Hey Soulhunter, do you eat vegetables at all?

Hey Soulhunter, do you eat vegetables at all?

Well, the tomato-sauce contains tomatoes...
And the burger has onions and pickles on it!
Or do you mean as a side-dish, or main-dish?

I eat potatoes as a side-dish for fish or roast...
Apart from that, I occasionally eat strawberries!

Been like that for 30+ years...
To me vegetables are like spices, a ingredient.

Potatoes? Botanically... Yes...
I like to eat them as side-dish to Fish.

But not for a steak or a burger...
I'd much rather add a second steak or burger.

At planting time this spring, I bought a pepper plant that was marked as "shi****o" which I have had excellent experience growing in my garden.

But this one was getting off to a very slow start but is now producing like crazy - and it is NOT shi****o. I am pretty sure they are ghost peppers and they are unbelievably hot! A 2mm cube on your tongue will really get your attention, and adding one pepper to a batch of ordinary food for 6 people makes it almost inedible.

These things are amazing, and not necessarily in a good way.

Hardly. This is peak hot pepper season around here, and that is a week's worth. Those little tobascos are just now turning red.

After chopping and freezing a couple of ice cube trays full, last year I started making hot pepper jelly and it is a huge hit. I was always indifferent to it when I just had store-bought, but what I make myself is much better. It is VERY sweet and VERY hot, and even my picky kids like it.

That whole mess will render down to about half a dozen half-pint jars at most.

Have you guys noticed.

With store bought tomatoes, you can maybe eat 1 or 2 max a day. Any more and gastric problems are likely.

WHEREAS, homegrown, ripe tomatoes, Tp4 has been eating unlimited 4x big ones a day every day for a month straight,  no problems.

Kind of make sense, if you tried to eat unripe apples, it's gonna send you to the  bathroom, whereas ripe apples are no trouble.

Tp4 also suspects the chemical ripener synthetic ethylene + food wax sprays are slightly toxic.

ripe

Are you letting them ripen? Tomatoes can be sold as "vine ripened" as long as there is even just a touch of pink on them when they are picked.

I usually let store-bought tomatoes sit on the counter for another 2-5 days before I eat them.

Will this change how they taste? If so... In what direction? Sweetness, tomato'ness or acidity?

Tp4 were just eating crackers and soda right now.

Drank the last bit of Cococolr, annndd, witness, still 2 crackers left over.  Epic failure, how is a modest Tp4 of modest composition supposed to persevere over such salty and immensely arid snak without the right fluid buffer.

This is a most dire situation, a personal battle of galactic significance.

Made my own butter today using heavy cream from a small local dairy farm and some Fleur De Sel Fumee smoked exotic sea salt.
Used it to make some cucumber sandwiches with a sprinkle of berbere seasoning, very simple and tasty!
Why does no one make smoked salt butter, it is so good.

I have bought smoked butter before, it was alright in very small doses, but quickly got overpowering.

I wonder how the taste difference is smoking the butter vs just using smoked salt
