Vodka from potatoes? Are you brain damaged?
That's not weird at all.
Norwegian akvavit and Polish vodka are often made of potatoes, whereas grain is most often used elsewhere.

And that is mostly because there is better economy of scale, storage and distribution with grain in the modern world. In older days, most Swedish akvavit used to be made from potatoes.

Chopin or Luskasowa beats out almost any corn or wheat based vodka imo

I mean, older days in Sweden were sometimes pretty ****. Potato akvavit sounds like something in the ballpark of bark bread. Like, a creative solution to the problem of getting drunk in 1867. But it's 2025 now and you can drink good liquor :P
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

Many people buy unflavoured akvavit and infuse it with their own flavourings. People share recipes and make up their own. That is culture.
I personally like akvavit flavoured with elder flower.

Drinking unflavoured akvavit/schnapps/vodka, or drinking anything just to get drunk is uncultured, I'd agree to that.

I can only tolerate schnapps if there is a thick slice of pear in the glass.

Hear, hear.

That is why (with a few exceptions) I drink liquor neat, in small sips over a long time.

Generally whiskey - yes, my father's family goes back 7 generations in Kentucky,

Korean BBQ for Christmas dinner, where they have a grill in the middle of the table and bring you endless meat and sides.
I have not been this full of meat since that childhood Christmas dad came into my room drunk...
