I have never understood the appeal of metal for the most part, but this... this is tragic: NPR: Deal With It, Headbangers — Babymetal Is Here

That's fair. You also like ALPS, right? The feeling is mutual.  :D

I've tried metal throughout the years and, like punk music, I can't get into it too much. I'm a bigger fan of slower and more comprehensible melodies and lyrics. I respect the art and talent surrounding a lot of metal, but I just can't listen to it for too long.

So you started a thread to show that you don't like something and you don't get it? Intriguing. Brb, making a thread about how we don't have the same views on something.

This **** is terrible.

I had a good laugh over it and still do.

I dunno, I don't find it funny either, just irritating. Maybe the Japanese are just too weird for me.

Oh, no, no. I think you misunderstand my intent. I certainly have no issue with anyone liking anything and I'm not trashing metal. It just doesn't appeal to me. I'm an avid reader of NPR and I found the story interesting and the music curious. The word "tragic" might not have been the most applicable.

Initial thought:  "Who doesn't like chocolate, metal and girls singing metal?"

Then, they started singing.  How can anyone not like something this adorable?  Oh, right, metal is srsbznz.

They're not trashing metal at all btw

It's a jape at foreign people

The stereotype is that Americans only listen to JPOP and J-metal.

I thought it was fun and it's entertaining. Hell, I'd catch a Babymetal show except I know I'm not coordinated enough to be in that mosh pit. :))

I totally did miss your point, my bad :( :( :(.

I thought the writing was hella biased but a bit honest as well. Maybe I listen to too much "underground" stuff as they say in the article. Sorry bro, no hard feelings?

Nah, it's the internet. Intent is hard to catch unless it's all spelled out. My best friend here loves metal. I love hip hop. We've agreed to disagree on those and we listen to anything but those two when we drive around together anywhere.

And yeah, it's always hard to read about things you care about because they either overgeneralize to appeal to people who aren't in the know about the topic or they get at something that you don't want to admit to. That's why I don't read reviews of games I want to play or love or bands I love and follow, etc.

Anyway, I'd have a hard time harboring a grudge against someone I might see at an upcoming meet-up.

Hehe, I love hip hop too and I agree. Stupid internet with it's lack of context and tone :))

And yeah, it's always hard to read about things you care about because they either overgeneralize to appeal to people who aren't in the know about the topic or they get at something that you don't want to admit to. That's why I don't read reviews of games I want to play or love or bands I love and follow, etc.

Which is what I think is most odd about the article. NPR usually does a better job at being a bit more objective from what I've seen.

Anyway, I'd have a hard time harboring a grudge against someone I might see at an upcoming meet-up.

I had a good lol. Sad that it's so brickwalled though. That's probably my least favourite part of modern japanese music

I'm as big a fan of gimicks in metal as the next guy. Sometimes the band has the talent to pull it off.
Whether it's a-capella metal (sweet, they have a new album coming out!)
or "blackjazz" metal with saxophone
or metal with everything.

It's all about the variety.

I actually enjoy them, and this is definitely one of their only songs that I really don't like very much. Their lead singer (suzuka nakamoto) is actually really talented, the other two girls are just there for choreography and kawaii factor

Baby Metal is an entertainment product.

And as with MANY modern entertainment products from JAPAN,  it un-apologetically leverages pedophilia..

That's whats wrong with it....   end of story...

How healthy of a social accord is it when the sexuality of children (those who are dependent on adults with little decision making powers of their own) are being sold...

I realize, the 3 kids in this "band" are probably well insulated from -the harsher- realities,   but that does not change the fact that they've built this thing to serve  a  not-so-healthy perversion of the fans...

True, there could be someone who just, likes their music,   but that is clearly NOT the main user base they're after....

where is this all going...  idk....   i don't even want to think about it...

You know, if this group was a little less metal and a little less Japanese kawaii egu bull****, then I might have actually liked them.
But as it stands this is just discomforting.
