Gift from dad
« on: Sat, 23 May 2015, 04:58:17 »
My dad lives in Italy and I have been telling him about my new found passion. A few days ago I got a box from him with some stuff:

 :D ;D :D ;D :D ;D :D ;D :D

The ISO WYSEs are cherry MX Black... SMOOTH black... Vintage black  ;D ;D ;D

I now have some of switches for a TKL Project I am working on

The IBM, sadly is a rubber dome, but in a normal Model M case. I plan to open it to see if there are usable parts.

I cleaned the Gray WYSE and I am planning to use Soarer's Converter on it. I hope it works with ISO. If it works, then I'll keep it as is and I'll find some vintage Blacks somewhere else

I am still not convinced that I should put in the effort to retrobright the yellowed one. I also has some very shiny caps.
Also, the yellowed had an EM shield inside it which I cleaned and moved to the gray one:

Here are some pictures with the cleaned gray one:

That WYSE board looks really nice and clean. Great find from dad!
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

You can convert that rubber dome Model M into a buckling spring, if you want.  Just get some springs and regular Model M keycaps that can house the springs (the rubber dome keycaps cannot), and you are good to go.  I've done it before.
Wish I had some gif or quote for this space, but I got nothing

That's a pretty good idea.  One idea I was thinking was just throwing a terminal internals into the chassis.  Hook up the ribbons, done! That would work too.

Yes, I was thinking too to source some Model M Keycaps + springs with flippers and throw away the rubber domes

I've got some springs and flippers, if you want them.  I am not sure how many exactly, but it might be enough for a Model M.  Send me a PM if you are interested.
