Lower decks s4 and 5 haven't been hitting as hard. They're gone a bit mild.

Meh.. Ok it's alright.  Not mega hype worthy.

Moreover Tp4 worries about content type such as this. Though superficially inductive, it is exceptionally vapid in terms of useful life lessons.

It's a malady of the absurd. We can conceptually accept that this is a coincidental pole of consciousness, but it has been weaponized to divert attention from our problems. An escape into abstract pain points. An all consuming loudness to drown out the real death breathing down our necks.

The Colosseum which stoked Rome to burn.

They drink budweiser on Atlantis?

Hrrm.. Bud doesn't seem like the right beer for Stargate Atlantis. But then again, if these projects had major sponsors, Bud would be up there.

Just finished, My Penguin Friend.

Based on a the true story of a Penguin washed up ashore covered in oil, saved by a retired bricklayer.

It swam 5000 miles each year to reunite with his human for 8 consecutive years, before he was not seen again.

Heartwarming but also a very bitter sweet story.

Gladiator 2,  his beard is WAYYYY too neat. There's just no way they wore that back in the day as a soldier.

The Intern (2015),

Now, cinematography, un-remarkable, plot - palatable.

The 1 standout, Anne Hathaway's emotional "short" in this movie, very organic.  These rare scenes, even briefly where you just believe. So few movies get them nowadays.

Incorporated. Syfy show from 2016.

The premise is basically a rich guy's dream come true scenario of the world. It's well made, plot is unoriginal but fully logical. A road well worn, but well paved.

Of course, this plot could never happen, rich people only fantasize about ruling the wasteland in this manner, they're typically ignorant of our faustian bargain with technology, its fragility.

/Solid recommend, short, only 1 season, ended too soon.

This is not out yet, but man, might be a good one.

Hang on, he's playing another IT / hacker role?

LOL, I wonder how those casting meetings went,

Remy; So, what am I playing.

Director; Imagine you're in an IT job, your wife was taken from you, and you become a hacker and attempt to exact revenge on those who took your wife.

Remy,  surprised pikachu face.. Are you serious right now? Are ffff'n serious ?  I was born for this.

Do you guys think hackers will be the main character to most movies going forward? Kind of like the token scientist character who has science super powers and can invent/ do anything except shoot guns/ kiss girls.

Now, before anyone brings up NEW-Spock,  that was an anomaly and completely out of character, it was dumb to write that into the plot.

Addam's Family Values (1993),  4k looks great, soft, but still good, probably badly preserved prints.

100% Tp4's movie analog.

Not that scary, plot you've heard.  But the cinematography is fantastic.

Annabelle Comes Home (2019).

Again, a throwback plot, but very well made. Cliche in the homage manner rather than straight cash-out.

Didn't like Wicked.

Akin to Harry Potter, the plot relies heavily on the inconsistent / unbelievable utility of magic.

If they're gonna use it like that, they have to explain the economy of why. As is, it's merely an illogically childish hollow human drama dressed in spectacles.

Eh.. could be worse.

It's admirable that animals have representation and voices in the film.

the inconsistent / unbelievable utility of magic.

This is so common and so horrible. It is literally the cheapest of all possible plot devices.

I really appreciate and respect writers who use magic in gentle and subtle ways, like LeGuin in her Earthsea series.
"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. They took your chance at a good education. They stole your opportunities. Billionaires took the things you want in life. If you really want those things, you have to take them back.
That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.
Late-stage capitalism is a wealth-concentration engine, focused on vacuuming up every dollar and putting it in as few hands as possible. Republicans are helping that vacuum suck.
How does a tiny fraction of the population get away with this? They do it by dividing the other 99% of Americans against themselves."

They never explain how the Face Huggers are so strong.

Tp4 has taken baseball bats to CRTs and Safety glass. You can honestly barely crack them as an adult.

So on "Future" super high tech spaceships, it's inconceivable that without the use of physical leverage, anything can break through security glass.

The FaceHuggers can run, but their low mass, and inability to use leverage is inconsistent with their movie plots.

The Martian is pretty gud' in 3D.

Alot of scenes look more natural in 3D. It's really not even about objects "coming" out of the screen, that effect is minimally used.  The depth helps with picking out geometry, the shape of objects.

If they've sold around 25 million VR headsets. Why not film a whole big budget movie, or tv-show for the quest. It's not like Facebook can't afford to do that.  They waste money on way crappier things.

Great transfer, tad too much air brush on Elizabeth Hurley, but I guess people are really sensitive about that stuff these days.

Starting to think maybe Ridley just cheated and used AI.
He's still stuck making what the studio wants/can afford.

Paraphrased story from one producer, forget who (Kevin Smith maybe)
Years ago towards the end of the zombie movie fad, they were shopping a scrip about something mundane, the first change by the studio wanted was an unnecessary love interest/sex scene, then some other changes, by the time they agreed to the film they wanted zombies added and the movie no longer even resembled the original script at all. This is also why so many women in movies have terrible parts,  their part was forced into the script to fill a role the studio requested(required).  It's not just women either, I think it was the original Ironman has a scene in China, just one, it was added to get Chinese endorsement so it would be shown there. Same with product placement.

Unless you're Spielberg, Tom Cruz or have independent funding you're going to have to compromise and work within their requirements.

Can confirm, Memoir of a Snail is excellent.

A story built on the context of exploring Empathy.

This is the type of story telling mankind needs more of.  The World policy of solving every problem with guns is juvenile, self destructive, and ultimately ineffectual.

Here (2024).

Extremely cogent presentation of the slice-of-life genre. No dread, no gimmick, non taxing.

A relaxing pace to simply put the audience at ease.

Tom hanks plays a very minimal role, not a gump movie, /expectation /recommended.

Instacult (2024),

Yea.... welllll.. A group of rebellion oriented feminists recruit "hacker/coder" women on the internet to join them. They hate the patriarchy, and they have these goals to expose social inequity/ crimes.

Wasn't a good movie. It's a 0-budget type film. We can forgive all of the mechanical flaws, but the plot, mm.. They really needed to revise. None of the linkage made sense.

Severance has the legs and ability to be "one of the greats" like the Sopranos. The world building is insane. The anxiety and tension the show brings is like nothing I have seen in a while (not including Silo, because that was also great).
Always looking for Alps SKCM/SKCL switches. Feel free to DM.

The slow drip mystery is pretty good, well paced, interesting.

If you don't think too hard about "WHY" a company would bother with this type of secrecy, it's fine.

We do have to be worried when they eventually have to "Reveal" something, and whatever it is, just won't be compelling enough to have justified all that cloak and dagger.

Unless they want to paint the picture that corporate structure is a waste of resources in general and late stage capitalism produces 0% net-good.   But, I don't think average writers have the kind of depth or courage to make a show like that, maybe they can workshop it with an AI.

Oh yeah, one of the best I say.

Silo, yes, but Silo 1. 2nd season is kinda slow and lame for me. Again, they dragging it.

It's a very good execution thus far, Tp4 can not deny that.

Side note:  What is it with the satanic secs stuff, why do they obsessively put it into movie and shows.
