My house purchase is about to fall through. 3 days before we were meant to move in.
****.
I would elevate that to a level beyond "bothering"
Yeah. There isn't a thread called "What happened today that ****ed up your plans for the future entirely" so it had to go here.
So we are buying it leasehold. The properties used to be a retirement complex, so to keep it that way, the lease said lots of things on there about only being available to people of retirement age. All of these clauses have been amended. Other than the one that says "This lease can only be transferred to someone of pensionable age".
So we can't buy the house. How so many people have overlooked this part of the lease is a testament to how bad their lawyers are at their job. The only reason why mine found it is because my file has been transferred to another lawyer in the company for the last three weeks, who had assumed the person who had it for the previous 8 had done her job properly.
So 3 days before we are meant to close, we can't buy the house. I'm going to be spending most of today on the phone to my solicitor to find out if it's worth holding on until the lease wording is changed (which has to be done for EVERYONE on the property who is under the same-worded lease) or we pull out of the purchase.
Good job we only bought 2 bits of furniture.
