My 3TB drive in Crystal Disk is at Caution level. SMART errors C5(Current pending sector count: 16) and C6(Uncorrectable sector count: 16). It has 15313 power on hours. I need to get a new Drive ASAP. I have 2x2TB, 2x1TB, 500GB and 320GB as spares but that's a hassle. Think I may have to start plugging in extra **** and shuffling stuff around. That's a lot of anime to reacquire.

Trust me, bro... do it... or else you'll lose over a TB worth of anime like I did... it hurts more when they're ones you have yet to watch and have lost seeds...

How dod you know the Caution levels and the hours it's been powered on? That might have saved me from this blunder... man... Now, I have to drop $200+ just to get a new drive and have backup... but I guess it pays off when a drive dies...

The lost seeds is what really makes things frustrating.

I would lose quite a lot actually: 7,401 Files, 473 Folders. This is the total file count, sub files and ****, actual episode count is, 5,816 and 48 movies.

CrystalDiskInfo. You might appreciate the Shizuka Edition, which is what I'm running now.

http://crystalmark.info/software/CrystalDiskInfo/index-e.html

Let me know if there's something you can't find and I'll see if I have it and can help you get it back.

There was this time when I had a PC with a tape drive in it.

I needed to reinstall the OS, so I did a full backup to tape and verified it - all good.

I did another full backup to another tape and verified it - all good.

I reinstalled the OS.

Then discovered that I could not read either tape.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

With SSDs there's such a low failure rate, raid 0 is a must for me. Unless I have the extra money I'd probably do raid 10.

Really? It only improves your seq. speeds so unless you are constantly transferring huge files there is basically zero benefit

Um.. raid zero ssd is SLOWER unless you have server activity..   because it takes twice as much time to access files at low queue depth.

I actually am always transferring files and moving back and forth, it's more of a luxury than a necessity. All the times it saves you a few minutes transferring files adds up, boot up times is almost instant as well.

I beg to differ, I used both raid 0 with 7200rpm HDD and with SSDs and have never seen it once where the HDD was faster. I have never heard or seen of raid 0 SSDs being slower before.

Raid zero ssd is slower because it doubles the seek latency..

It's so negligible that the gains on your read and writes out weighs the loss in seek latency.

Here's a little snippet I found:

"the hard disks performance is primarily determined by its latency, which is on the order of 10ms,vs .1ms for the SSD.If the SATA host adapter introduces a ms of latency, and the RAID bios introduces another ms,then its still a major win. Your seek times halve and transfer rates double,so your seek goes down to 10+1+1=12 ,halved=6ms. And your peak transfer rate is a GB/s. SO two disks is almost twice as fast. But the SSD has a seek latency on the order of .1ms,so your latency with a single drive is 1.1ms. But with the raid, its 2.1ms/2 or 1.05ms,which is hardly better than one, although your transfer rate is doubled. But thats not the whole story, because really, with the raid bios, your writes have more overhead than your reads. Say,2ms instead of 1. So lets say writes happen 25% of the time to 75% reads, Then still, the hard disk arrays average latency is 6.25ms. Still a vast improvement, and the difference in overhead is hardly noticeable. Even doing all writes, its 7ms. You'll never notice that at all. But for the SSD,its 1.05ms average latency 75% if the time, and 1.55ms latency 25% of the time, or 1.05*.75+1.55*.25=1.175ms. So the latency to access the disk, assuming our assumptions are met, INCREASES by around 7%. But if the system has to write a lot more than I assumed, like if its booting up,rebuilding the page files and the prefetch folder and superfetch cache, etc, then its going to be far worse. If it did 100% writes, the seek latency would increase to 1.55ms,a drop in seek time of nearly 41%. And we know that windows performance in fact is impacted HEAVILY by write latency. Just look at what a readyboost cache on a USB stick can do for you. Even at the low data rate of a flash drive, the low latency can make a big difference. "

run a benchmark dude..   raid 0 random performance is Slower at low queue depth vs a single drive,  whereas its i/o is faster at high queue depth vs a single drive.

If you're NOT running a server, you will always be within 1-4 queue,  which means, raid will ALWAYS be slower..

I never said that you were trying to trick me, and I'm sorry that you find it funny when I'm simply trying to better understand the subject. I'm not trying to say I know everything by any stretch of the imagination but still the loss seems very negligible. If it's going to save me some money to get two smaller drives in raid 0 than one big one I would still gladly do it and accept the minuscule loss at low queue depth.

Steezus,  it's not miniscule loss.. it's TOTAL loss.

Because by buying 2x smaller SSDs and raiding them, WITHOUT the server oriented environment, you ONLY LOSE..  there is NO GAIN possible.

The only people who could say they need raid ssds, are perhaps video encoders who copy huge files back and forth between drives.

Even then, the benefit is questionable, because the encoding time is 100x the copy time.

What we ARE sure of,  is that 2 is always worse than 1 when it comes to regular desktop tasks, be it gaming, photoshop, facebook.

Also,  when it comes to cost,  2x smaller SSDs of the same series is always more expensive than a single larger one.

You might be able to get 128gb ssds for a better rate..  but you NEVER want to go lower than 256gb,  because the 128gb is when they reduce the memory channels, so it's something like a 20% performance hit relative to the 256 gb version..

There are like a million different things that can cause "back pain", sometimes the source is a simple as trigger points in surrounding muscles. All depends, if it's something like a nerve impingement though then it would make more sense to do something more drastic.

My back has been killing me for days, ibuprofen doesn't cut it. I'm too young for this ****.

You gotta address the issue, not just mask it, man.

I guy I work with has back problems and if anything I've heard from him get that **** sorted asap otherwise it will come back to bite you in the ass 10x

try sitting up straight...   and stand stretching..

also,  sleeping on your back is a MUST..

There are like a million different things that can cause "back pain", sometimes the source is a simple as trigger points in surrounding muscles. All depends, if it's something like a nerve impingement though then it would make more sense to do something more drastic.

That's the impression I was getting rather than just bad posture

FYI, sitting up straight is not good for your back, puts a lot of pressure on the lumbar spine. Better to sit in a reclined position of about 130 degrees.

I've tried it ALLLL...  130, lieing down, 90, everything.

Overall, i think how you sit is less important than the length you remain in that 1 position.

I got this new butt sway move that I do in my seat every few minutes now. whenever I intend to sit for a long time..

New batman vs superman trailer

The more I see, the more I even realize that nothing can beat Christian Bale Batman....
And it's the biggest mistake to end him as Batman

Jesse Eisenberg looks perfect as the villain though

It was his choice, he said he refused to do anymore batman movies. He said he had done everything he wanted with the character.

It's cuz if he keeps doing batman.. he's gonna get stuck with batman. typecasting is very serious in hollywood.

But to be honest.. He's a bit of a crummy actor in league with keanu... so I really don't see any Bigger outs for him.. hahaha.

To clarify,  I enjoy all of these guyz's movies..   but that doesn't change the fact that their projected emotions parallel that of a cardboard box.

My wife wanted something from sears so I decided to order a few miscellaneous tools that were on sale. They have shipped a half dozen items individually versus putting them in one box and they are all staggered and coming days apart.

People who can't label servers correctly. It's down to people not using a standardised method of labelling machines, as simple as using all capitals as opposed to all lower case. Therefore we have two entries in our CMDB for the same machine, the real name is I242*** but it is down as both that and L242*** because someone used lower case and it looks the same...

I've spent like three days talking with people trying to explain that their server diagrams have gone to **** because they can't be bothered to press their Caps Lock key...
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?
