Strange that fruits like strawberries, blueberries, oranges, and melons have lost taste, sweetness, and juiciness.
That's because producers and sellers have transitioned to hardier, high-yield varieties and/or that they can grow in greenhouses out of season.
Strawberries grown outdoors and sun-ripened are absolutely wonderful. That's why here in Sweden, strawberries in summer is a big deal, and people care about getting
domestic strawberries to increase the chance that they taste good.
I've had large
american blueberries many times, and all but once were they tasteless.
Wild european blueberries (called "bilberries" in the US) are smaller, but more nutritious and much tastier. Nobody has found a way to cultivate and harvest them at scale, unfortunately, but thankfully they grow wild in abundance over here in mid/late summer, and frozen berries are usable for a pie.
One thing I don't like is that european and american blueberries are sold under the same name, so when a product contains "blueberries" you can't tell which variety it is.
Sometimes, a product based on european blueberries have been diluted, with
american "blueberry" flavouring added ... yuck.
