Any chance of this being a mechanical?

Show Image

Yes.

 :p

Okay, I'll stop being a smartass.  It looks very much like a Cherry G80-1500.  If so, these were usually MX Black switches, if it's an older model they could have that "vintage Black" feel that is pretty nice.  I'm typing on one right now.

But, it would really help to see the label on the keyboard.

Well thanks, just saying the font doesn't look like Cherry at all. Also, the transparent cutouts for Num, Capslock and "Rollen" were of another style, rather rectangular. Would be very astonished if this were a Cherry keyboard. The font style rather looks Model-M-ish to me, though the caps obviously don't. I'm really not sure at this one. I', actually hoping for some kind of maybe blue or green ALPS, that'd be nice^^
Unfortunately, there are no other fotos. I will maybe just buy it (hope to get it for <10€ incl. shipping).

I got the G80=1501HAD I'm using right now for €10.00 plus €5.90 shipping.  Cost a bit more to get it to the US, but I think that was a decent price for the quality and MX Blacks.  I think it was a wise move to stick to €10 as your top bid.   :D

...Quite expensive as 85 USD just for switches... I think I should work on my wallet more and stick with stock keyboards for a while

you could just buy a QFR w/greens for a little bit more :D

That's the one.  More specifically the one I want uses the centronics 36 connector with bail latch.  Just needed that seed.

Those are probably from a WEY keyboard.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WEY-Banking-Double-Shot-Keytop-Cherry-MX-Mechanical-Switch-Keyboard-HK2000B-/321116677022?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D15010%26meid%3D7446503786930103391%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D1121%26rk%3D1%26sd%3D161016541694%26&nma=true&si=aq96MfHMvXAPG26kzDt1zuZw5rk%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

These windowed keycaps are in demand, you can sometimes find sets of just the blanks for sale on Taobao.  Pricey, though.

Wow, despite extra keycaps and everything, that keybord itself is a dream... Just to be clear, he sells the whole thing there? Not just caps? And what would you need to get it connected to a Win8 PC, he's speaking of a controller box there...

You'd probably need to teensy it. And yes, it's the whole board.

Binder method never worked for me. I think I may have bought binders that were too thick since they literally wouldn't fit in the holes. Even tried hammering them but still wouldn't work.

a small file fixes that problem.  The thread that I saw with them and how he made them said that he had to file down the ends to fit in the holes.  Gotta remember it is a round peg in a square hole.

They are pretty good, but not nearly as good as Black Widow Ultimates.

They're not the best, it's just personal opinion. If they were clearly superior, everyone would have that over everything else. The PCB is apparently very easy to mod. And you have one so you must like it already.

Filco was kind of special if you go back in time some years. Back then they were a cut above most choices in build quality. Now not so much. There are many other choice that is just as good really. Filco is mostly just riding on the reputation these days in my opinion.

Captchas go away after I think post 10.

Q.
What do you usually do when you buy another KB knowing your significant other half will be pissed beyond godlike?

(I just get prepared to spend double, so $xxx.xx for the KB, and $xxx.xx for the hu$h) lol

This is from page 1.. but I love this question hahaha. I face silent judgment whenever I get a new package.. but its just.. so addicting.. dem endorphins.
My SO doesn't need a keyboard.. but one day I'm gonna buy her one, and customise it for her. She won't want it.. but she'll hopefully use it and love it and will join me on this keyboard adventure. Probably not though. Lol.

How in the hell did someone come up with the lube combination of GPL103 + GPL205? I mean, who decided that using lube commonly used for Liquid Oxygen pumps would be so amazing in a keyboard?

WFD has an excellent summary here: http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=44525.msg922756#msg922756
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Say you want something between MX Red and MX Black. Good way to approach this?

What springs to use, where to get them?

You'll more than likely have to find Korean springs

62g and 65g Korean springs are inbetween MX Reds and Black. You can get them in various groupbuys (Calavera just held one) and Sherry has some for sale in his classifieds board.
