Does your keyboard have a name?
« on: Wed, 28 August 2013, 09:33:02 »
I know we have Ducky's, KMAC's, ergodoxes, etc....

But do you give your keyboard's names?? If so why and what do they mean?

I know many people who name their laptops, desktops, servers etc so why not keyboards!  :thumb:

I call my ducky shine 2 that is my daily driver 'whistlebit'.

If you've never heard the saying people say don't get 'whistle bit' when your so into your work etc you forget what time it is and work over. Sometimes when I get to swapping key caps or trying to decide if one key feels different than the rest an entire hour can go by before I realize it.

No really I just shout at it for having a stupidly big Enter Key.
unless they have some unforeseeable downside (like they're actually made of cream cheese cunningly disguised as ABS)

Never even thought about it.

Though when I do name anything when it comes to PC's (when choosing the name under which a PC appears in a network, SSID etc.) I always have a predator fish theme, with names like Barracuda etc.

No, my keyboards do not have names, but now that I consider it -- they should.

The only board I have with something even resembling a name is my white 87U w/ the Star Wars Imperial symbol on it. What I really, really want is a white stormtrooper Topre keycap for the escape key.

No idea if I'm going to end up naming any of my other boards.

I used to have this urge to put my name on everything as a kid..  as a dog marks his territory. This extended to applying exclusive names to things "I own"..

I've since out grown it.. I've come to prefer anon due to Internet exposure.. because I legitimately fear that there are some crazy people out there that might try to kill me "FOR  A SILLY REASON".   Like the fact that I don't quite enjoy excessively salty foods..

Never really gave it much thought, but names would make it easier than saying "the blue one... no, the other blue one" in conversation.

I only tend to name things that have an IP address.

Except this one printer that I used to call "you miserable bastard".
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Sometimes - I have most trouble with printers.  Always have had.  Most other peripherals behave themselves quite nicely.

I had trouble with HP and Brother printers. So far, my Epson printer is going strong. Ink is also very cheap with a continuous ink system. Wi-Fi works great, don't even need to install the printer to print things (or maybe it's just Windows 8 that automatically detects and installs printers).

My tethering Wi-Fi is named FBI VAN #1786.
