Always idiots in here to blow things up when there's a peacefull riot. Just so the riot reason get overshadowed by the violence.

And journalists always end up being hit or attacked, so the protest lost all his meaning. Funny how the same events happen again & again.

I paid for some very expensive flowers to be delivered to my gf's house where she is atm for her birthday in Italy, with the message;

"Happy Birthday, Love Frank" (not my real name b/c lol internets)
This message I had asked them to put with the flowers was in Italian and the company I used, was Italian.
The flowers arrive with the message;
"Lol Frank".

Beyond pissed off as those flowers were properly ****ing expensive and 'Lol' is very much understood in Italy, as is the ****ing message I wrote out, that was in bloody Italian!

I sort of gave up on XenServer on my new server and installed CentOS directly on to it.

While rebuilding the software RAID it seems that one of the HDDs is on the way out.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

What RAID set up are you using?

Software RAID 1 across two drives.

I just installed the first round of updates, rebooted (to activate a kernel upgrade) and there are dozens of "failed command: WRITE FPDMA QUEUED" errors.

Software RAID - no RAID controller in this server, unfortunately.

assuming your platform is "solid"   software raid is fine..   But let's say you got a cheap motherboard, and one of the sata ports fried..

Then it's game over.

If you say so, Gareth.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

"Happy Birthday, Love Frank" (not my real name b/c lol internets)
This message I had asked them to put with the flowers was in Italian and the company I used, was Italian.
The flowers arrive with the message;
"Lol Frank".

Beyond pissed off as those flowers were properly ****ing expensive and 'Lol' is very much understood in Italy, as is the ****ing message I wrote out, that was in bloody Italian!
As bad as that is you have to admit that's pretty funny I'm sure she will understand, also I'm calling you frank from now on/ if we ever met

So I have to work late today. That is usually pretty great because it means I get to go into work late, and alone time is not something inanis comes by often. One my ONE day every 3 months that I get to sleep in, I get paged from work at 6am. I don't answer, cause I'm working late...not early. Only then they call my house. Then my cell again...so I answer. Some system is down, to make it just even better, it is a development server; not even production. Yeah, okay, whatever I'll fix it. So I go to fix it...and no internet. WTF! I go in my basement, and no power. FiOS gateway is on battery backup and my modem and router have no power at all, UPS battery ran out.

Okay, okay this is obnoxious. So I check the breakers, no trips. Then it occurs to me that it has been down pouring all night here. Like buckets and buckets of rain. We had some electrical work done outside while it was very dry. This must be the root of my problem. I check one the switch this is connected to, and see that the GFI reset button needs to be it. Viola! Power. Only now I need to go outside to figure out WHY it tripped the outlet. I trace it back and find a wire that isn't fully capped. I do my thing and cover it up for now. Then I turn around to head back into the house and I fall into a friggin sink hole. No joke, I sunk into the ground up to about my mid-thigh. Now my BRAND NEW black boots look like this:

The lowercase g of "geekhack Media Thread" whys that the only topic word lowercased.

apparently geekhack is never capitalized.

Yeah look at the header on the site.  geekhack is all lowercase.  ;)

Except for the times it's not (GeekHack), but I don't think that's technically right.

Yahksha has its own unique names?
