I know it's my civic duty to do my part,
I have trouble understanding why citizens are so reluctant to participate in the operation of the society that they live in.
Minor annoyances such as jury duty, voting, paying taxes, obeying laws, etc, etc, are a VERY small price to pay for the priviledge of living in the comfort and luxury of this world that we have the supremely good fortune of experiencing for a few decades.
Whenever I get irritated by some "1st world problem" I try to imagine the lives of my ancestors half a dozen, a dozen, a hundred, or a thousand generations back and thank my lucky stars that I am living here, now.
