Anyway, one of my toes was hurting last week, and the toe nail has turned black.  I guess it's going to fall off soon.

I have no idea what I did to it.

I lost 2 fingernails on 2 separate occasions due to having them crushed by various doors/objects. It wasn't very fun, let me tell you. Hahaha

Anyway, one of my toes was hurting last week, and the toe nail has turned black.  I guess it's going to fall off soon.

I have no idea what I did to it.

One of my fingernails fell off when I was a kid (unchecked infection iirc). It was such a strange feeling to touch the nail bed  Not fun at all

I've had both big toe nails removed surgically a couple of times each due to ingrown toenails when I was young.

I also lost another toe nail more recently when I kicked something inanimate out of frustration and my toe came off worse, and the nail fell off a month later.

Thinking about it, this might be the same nail.  But that last event was some 4 or 5 years ago and probably unrelated.

It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

ive had a big toenail and small one fall off from playing badminton in shoes that were too small over a course of 3-5 months. was black for around 2 months and started to become loose. didn't hurt at all to tug it off surprisingly, so overall not too much of an unpleasant experience

That is some seriously large feet.
"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. They took your chance at a good education. They stole your opportunities. Billionaires took the things you want in life. If you really want those things, you have to take them back.
That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.
Late-stage capitalism is a wealth-concentration engine, focused on vacuuming up every dollar and putting it in as few hands as possible. Republicans are helping that vacuum suck.
How does a tiny fraction of the population get away with this? They do it by dividing the other 99% of Americans against themselves."

The past few days, I have had aches at the top of my stomach and had difficulty sleeping because of gastric reflux. Last time I pooped an hour ago, my stool was black.
I hope that the aches will subside and that the blackness was caused by a vitamin pill I forgot I had taken or by licorice I had eaten the day before yesterday.

Dude, I wholly sympathize with your situation. Got a peptic ulcer and heavy acid reflux as a result and it sucks. It's basically a 24/7 pain right below the ribs like you are constantly being stabbed with a soldering iron all day long. And then when you go horizontal at night for some sleep, ohhh man it gets so much worse. I mow down Tums like some people drink water.

The black stool is worrying though, which may mean internal bleeding. I would get it checked out soon if that happens again or if you start to vomit because those are signs of a ruptured lining or ulcer and can be serious.

she gave me the anesthetic code named 'yellow' and she began to work on my tooth. it hurt like hell so she had to give me another shot called 'black' anesthetic. currently, my whole face is numb and when i speak, my speech is slurred. i'm so scared i'm going to bite into my tongue so i am doing nothing that involves my mouth or tongue. no eating for me :(

Local anesthetic is weird like that :-X One dentist had to give me four shots before he could work on one of my front teeth (I was driving myself that day) and that stuff is EXPENSIVE!

Besides being bummed out about having a new boss and having a coworker of 6+ years leave now my mom tells me my dads got arterial blockages which require immediate surgery and a spot on his lung and I'm 12+ hours away and can't leave work without risk of being fired.

It double sucks because I've got no one here to talk to about it now.

If you are here in the US (sorry, in mobile and drawing a blank where you are located) then legally you can't get fired for this due to Family Medical Leave Act.  They don't have to pay you for your time off, but can't fire you either.

I left my office thinking I had my phone with me.  Now I'm not sure if I left it in the office or if I lost it between the office and my car.  I went back to the office, but it was all locked up.

there's a guy in my team that insists on using tabs instead of spaces

i've heard tales of people with this preference but i didn't think i'd have the displeasure of meeting one

we have a set list of best practices defined so he shouldn't be using tabs, but he tries to slip them in code here and there...

Some editors have functionality to convert tabs to spaces, either as you type or through the whole document. I prefer using spaces to indent, but I prefer using the tab key because it automatically inserts the correct number of spaces to the next tab stop.

Functionally, is there any difference between tab and spaces?

Different editors render tabs as different numbers of spaces. It's not awful if you only use tabs (makes code a bit spread out if you have 8-space tabs, which is the default for a few of them), but if you mix tabs and spaces then open your file somewhere that uses a different tab size, it makes it much harder to tell what's going on.

yeah we have an office-wide standard of a tab being 4 spaces, but sometimes an IDE/editor/tool etc will have tabs showing as 2 or 8 spaces. some of our legacy code includes some pretty large files which have a nasty mix of spaces and tabs

Resharper helps out a lot if i'm fortunate enough to be working in C#, as it can convert all tabs to spaces in a file in just command

Woke up at 12am after going to sleep at 9pm last night. Not the first time this has happened so I'm trying to make sense of it..

The network usually goes down sometime between 8pm-12am.. can I only dream/sleep when there is a matrix wifi signal?

I grew up on actual typewriters, and the tab was something that was used quite a bit and was very important.

The consistency and ability to create good-looking and easy-to-read columns was crucial to paper documents.

Computers and printers are completely insane in the way that they handle tabs, with every situation and application doing something different, and I never use the "Tab" key for actual tabs except in word processing. Otherwise, the Tab is just a different form of navigation or Enter (aka "Carriage Return/Line Feed" in the old days).
