So much wrong with this design.

Like post-modern architecture at its worst.
Like most things in business, don't blame the architect/programmer/engineer, this was a management decision.
Everyone up top was thinking profits and not whether or not it would look right, be practical or made any sense what-so-ever.

It's the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet of computer cases.

God damn it.

Windoz autoupdated Tp4's laptop bios, which locked out undervolting.

It's a good thing "This" particular laptop allows flashback, there are cases where certain sections of microcode are fixed once Intel pushes them out (security vulnerabilities).

This is a huge problem, because old machines are slow already, and they get dragged down further by successive updates.

I've been having to use Win11 lately for work.
If you're comfortable with it, I'm starting to change my stance on Mac and Linux, not because Windows is so good but because once you find out how much better life is on those you will hate Windows far more than you already do.

God damn it,   2x power efficiency? 6-6.5ghz (on mobile), 7ghz+ on desktop,  INSANE.

Now that we have detail on Zen7,  HOW IS TP4 supposed to buy a laptop until 2027-2028..
:-X

ALSO, Tp4 guessing Zen 6 is NOT delayed,  They're only saying that so you'll buy up today's 9800x3ds.

Hrrrm.. Steam machine.

1 Gigabit Ethernet. DisplayPort 1.4. HDMI 2.0. One USB-C and four USB-A ports.

Dp 1.4,  so it's going to use DSC to get to the claimed 4K240hz.  That's okkkk buhh, hrrrm.. Wish they'd gone and just gave us a full 80Gbps port. There's no reason RDNA3 can't do it.

It's around a 4060 performance lvl though (according to reviewers).  Guess that's enough if the games are highly optimized for it.  They should've done put in something like the 8060s for smaller form factor, or a 7900xtx for durability.

It's probably not as fast as a 4060 though, It's going to be slower than the 8060s which has +12 CU.

Those are fine, the real issue is the 512gb SSD and 8gb ram on the base model. That model only exists to pique peoples interests, don't buy that one.

It's a little light yea.

24GB + 7900gre even, would displace ps5.

As far as we know, PS5 is around a 7900xtx + 5090lvl ray tracing performance. RUMORS.

But still. You can't compete with that unless you got some waff.

With steam's buying power, Don't see why they couldn't do an 8060s at $600.

I mean, it looooks cool.

Mediocre cooling performance. and $$$$$

That top psu mounting makes no sense, it would look better on the bottom. Guess they did it to give the GPU air from the base. Is that really necessary? Because, clearly the cooling performance is mediocre.

If steam machine is indeed a 7600, is that enough for most consumers.

Basically a 2060/ 2070.  IDK.  is that enough for Modern expectations @ $500-600.

I think it's a bit expensive.  Cuz you have no expandability.

This price bracket of products are not very good price to performance in general.

You really need to be around $1200-1500 to cross the threshold.

Buhhh Tp4,  Valve got dat Optimizations,   look, Optimizations give you 10%-15%,  so you take a 2060/2070 + 10%, which is basically, an overclocked 2060/2070.

It's STILL NOT That fast.  You're still spending year 2026 $ on a 2018 lvl product.

When the engineer says it's better than 70% of the hardware that's out there, even if that were true, the elevation isn't by all that much.

If you want PC gaming, you can easily build a $600pc with used parts 4060 or 3060, and blow this thing out of the water.

They sell whole refurb pcs with 4060 for $600.

Zen4, 7700, $80
b650, $80
32gb ram, used $70
psu, $40
case, $50
cooler, $25

$225 left for GPU.

If you penny pinch here/there, you can get $300-320 for gpu.

You can get a PREBUILT 5060 pc for $600, if you go with Intel's jank cpus.

steam machine is a step in the right direction. pc hardware is horribly unoptimized for its raw power. we need more unified hardware that is easy to diagnose hardware bugs and optimization issues. i don't want to see issues like people wrecking their computers trying to play bf6. that is an unacceptable experience. ideally, one day there could be a version of the steam machine with high end hardware that can satisfy those that crave faster machines. it's been far too long of having all these loose pc components creating infinite combos of pc hardware which creates all these issues. if I were to have it my way, ram cpu gpu and motherboard would all be sold in one piece in order to end hardware mismatch and unlock bandwidth limitations. it's gone too far if you ask me. way too many ram kits out there for no reason if you ask me, and QVL list is just a pain to work with, and motherboards have barely changed in principle in ages. time for a change

Budget brand Montech coming in with cooler, probably rebadged thermalright,

buhhh.. for $29.99 msrp, probably $25 on sale. performance at least as good as a peerless assassin,  The copper pipes are not zinc coated, that's maybe a Hun, why not?

Cost savings.

Stilll... if they get it to $20 sales.  hard to complain. The copper pipes though.

27 Inch oled for $400.  Acer 1440p, 288hz

IDK...  kinda meh...

If they did 320-330hz, Tp4 would be tempted, because that's the Max, but they kinda lazied it and did 288hz.

sOme Tp4 benchies.

-Cpuz

9750h 4.0 ghz. (the disappointment) mobile chip

445 Single 0.111/mhz, 100%ipc
3552 Multi

4790k 4.8 ghz (the time traveler)

533 Single 0.111/mhz, 100%ipc
2673 Multi

9700x 5.75 ghz (fast but actually slow)

913 Single, 0.159/mhz, 143%ipc
9389 Multi

So Hades 2 actually runs kinda bad on older mobile cpu cuz of the frequency gate. Even though, the 9750h chip is the same chip as the 8700k which is very fast for its era capable of ALOT more.

Tp4 doesn't own 1, but @ 5.0 ghz,

8700k

595 Single, 0.119/mhz, 107%ipc
4435 Multi

5080 fe just had a restock on nvidia site just an hour or two ago. seemed fairly easy to check out, but I actually decided against it in the last moment. kind of an unnecessary switch for me, and I'd eat a few hundred dollars between selling my current 5070ti and moving to the 5080. I think the ram shortage will hit gpus soon, so purchasing now is a good hedge against that.

Ram is expected to go up another 70%, so if you haven't bought it, do it now.
Also, GPUs will go way up, so will phones. There's a very real chance that 2027 phone models will be cut down and have ram closer to what was top several years ago.

And then it will bleed over into EVERYTHING.

Just splurged on a new rig:

AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + ASUS B650E-E TUF GAMING + Crucial Pro Overclocking 32 GB (2x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 <-- all from Micro Center bundle
Sapphire NITRO+ AMD Radeon RX 9070 X Center
Samsung 9100 PRO 1 TB
MSI MPG A850GS 850w PSU

Running these in my old NZXT case with my old Corsair Hydro Series H60 cooler, until I replace them this weekend and finalize the build.

Decided to go for broke, with the impending hardware shortages prices are only going to go up, thanks AI

That top psu mounting makes no sense, it would look better on the bottom.
I think that glass PCs are stupid as long as motherboards and other parts aren't adapted for good cable routing. Most PCs look like rats nests inside anyway.

Anyway... I have a top-mounted PSU in my PC.
It is semi-passive, and almost never activates its own fan
The CPU cooler is mounted vertically, so it blows air through the PSU and out.
This means that there is only ever one fan active in the whole system, and it is therefore almost inaudible.

Note that the CPU fan is a Gentle Typhoon with ball bearings which can be mounted horizontally to blow upwards. Liquid bearing fans should only be mounted to blow sideways.
