Cell phone addicts are getting on my nerves....

I have probably previously mentioned that a few years ago, I saved a texting woman from being run over by a train on a railway crossing ...
And last summer, I was almost hit by a taxi-cab while I was walking over a zebra crossing, because the drivers was talking on his phone instead of paying attention. (Unlike the civilized world, such as the rest of Europe and Canada, using a phone while driving is not forbidden here...)

Every day the past few days when I have been shopping for food in the local convenience store, I have seen at least one person yapping on the phone constantly during checkout without even taking a pause for talking to the cashier.
Not to mention those who usually stand themselves right inside the entrace or .. not in aisles, but in the intersection between multiple aisles, blocking the way for me and others.
Am I really that old-fashioned to think that is disrespectful?

Just the other day, I was standing in line to get my passport. A woman came in right in front of me with her phone in her face. "Excuse me", I said politely, "the line starts there" and I pointed behind me. She answered "I'm not standing in line, I'm writing an important text".
I continued, still in a polite tone and words: "Well, you are standing in the way of me and others. There is a line here.".
And she talked back to me! "Are you telling me where I can and can not stand?".
I was tempted to smack her in the face right there ...

Hahahahaha, You need to aggressively yell at her until she changes her ways..

Create a severely terrible experience for her while she's texting on her phone..

That way she will naturally avoid doing it in the future

Be as crazed and Angry and Loud as possible.  Use all the most offensive German curse words..   What are the German words for you fat cow.

ULTIMATELY   you're doing her the favor, and saving her from herself.

For the people in the middle of the grocery aisles, you could probably grab their shoulders and move them. I doubt they're concentrating on their center of balance while they're on the phone :)) Maybe they'll get the message

I'm having trouble staying awake at work. :(

Just as long as you're not having trouble sleeping at night too - worst combination NA!
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I just accidentally deleted 12 years worth of sent emails.  :-\

I thought I was the only one who kept so many old emails.

My oldest sent email is dated Wed Jan 07 11:33:53 2004.

I have some older ones, but they are in a proprietary Microsoft format that I can't read now.

what's a snapback

When you buy something with a snap and it doesn't come as expected and the seller isn't being cooperative, so you file a snapback.

The wire on the back of my bottom front teeth came loose on one end, so there's a sharp wire poking my tongue when I try to eat or drink.  Dentist will hopefully be able to fit me in today after school :/

No, AR is for the company that designed that weapon system, ArmaLite Rifle.

And a quote from Wikipedia.

In a strict definition, a firearm must have at least the following characteristics to be considered an assault rifle:[2][3][4]

It must be an individual weapon
It must be capable of selective fire
It must have an intermediate-power cartridge: more power than a pistol but less than a standard rifle or battle rifle
Its ammunition must be supplied from a detachable box magazine[5]
And it should have an effective range of at least 300 metres (330 yards)
Rifles that meet most of these criteria, but not all, are technically not assault rifles, despite frequently being called such.

When people refer to an AR-15 as an assault rifle.

Well, due to it being the original version of the M16, you can see why people make that mistake.

The fact that an AR-15

and an M4 carbine

look so similar, does not help with the confusion. I know it's like with anything, if you know about it then you know it's wrong, but when it looks like that, it's pretty easy to get it mixed up with an assault rifle.

Don't worry about not meeting the deadline of your SS. So long as you let nubs know it's taking a while and you get it out eventually, I'm sure your recipient won't mind :) Nothing to get too worked up over.

What a ****in' bunch of twats!

If anything, it's more convenient for them. Less line, less attitude from some city worker with an attitude, more parking at the insanely small parking area city government places have, the list goes on...

I'm currently bothered by the 2.5% convenience fee that is being charge for wanting to pay my property taxes online.  >:D

Is that on top of a credit card processing fee or no?  Because most government agencies tack around a 2% fee to cover those for online payments or if you are paying with a credit card, and I definitely know the IRS does if you want to pay your taxes to them online as well as Michigan if you are paying for tabs or other stuff online.

hahahahaha..  That's because there are no competing tax collection agencies..

So at the fundamental level, they have all the leverage to make you pay for ALL of their expenses, including expenses to COLLECT tax..  like credit card processing fee, etc.

That's the extra fee charged to pay online versus physically going to the county tax office.

At least you have the option of physically paying.

I can only pay my rent online, and get charged a different fee depending on what payment method I choose.

A few years ago I lived at a rental place that only took online payments. A $2.75 charge was tacked on to rent, but it was a really nice place for the area so I didn't mind it all that much.

OK, now it's time to leave The Motherland :'(
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

If they don't charge a credit card processing fee at the physical office I would agree the fee is bull****, but from personal experience most government agencies have these fees because they don't want to eat the processing fee as it throws off their budgets and us accounting folks don't like that :)

For a simple and probably understated example, if you've got 3000 people paying their property taxes of, say, an average of $2000 a year via credit card and they are being charged a 2% fee to process those via the credit card companies, that's $120,000 a year the county or township or whatever is losing from your budget to those fees.  With most government budgets, they (ideally) want things tied out as close as possible and having your yearly books of by hundreds of thousands of dollars tends to piss off the bean-counters.

Now, private companies usually just eat these costs or price things accordingly to cover them, but some smaller companies or business don't want to, which is why you find places that will only take cash or check as they don't want to pay those fees out, even if it means potentially losing some business in the process.

I agree.  Our local court house for paying various taxes and car registration has a different fee for debit and credit.  If I remember right debit is a straight $2.50 fee with credit being a percentage.  So I usually run some quick math in my head as I can run my bank card as both.
